Job description

Please note this position is for the Barking & Dagenham area. Community Education delivers free confidence-building workshops to young people, and we want you to help us in our mission to empower communities to become more resilient. We ask that you: - Are available to help us for a minimum of 8-12 hours per month weekdays - Can commit to helping us for a minimum of 9 months. - You will need use of your own vehicle - Volunteering days and times could vary week-in-week. Please note as part of this role you will be expected to travel up to one hour to venues to deliver workshops. Workshops can take place at various times, usually between 9am and 3.30pm. Must be available weekdays during school hours and live in the area. Must be computer literate and be able to deliver our Educational workshops independently once training has been completed. You will be required to carry learning materials or light-weight training equipment and will need use of your own laptop/computer. If you have previous experience that’s great, but we will give full training and support if you are passionate about this and want to get involved. We ask that you can commit to this role and to working through the role induction. 70% of the learning will be done practically, along with some online learning modules, with a view to be independently delivering one of our workshops within 3 months of joining Community Education. We will provide you with all training resources, and we will support you by providing opportunities for observations, feedback, and training. You will empower young people in your community by delivering workshops on a range of humanitarian topics including First Aid and Wellbeing. This is a wonderful opportunity to represent the British Red Cross in your local community, whilst working with a supportive and inclusive team. We ask that you are available to help us deliver education workshops for a minimum of 8 hours per month and can commit to helping us for a minimum of 9 months. Our workshops take place at different times every week, so flexibility is desired.
  • Tasks: Deliver a range of interactive workshops to young people in schools and youth settings.
    Promote our Community Education workshops within your community.

  • Skills: Confidence to independently deliver workshops to a group of young people.
    Ability to communicate effectively with our partner organisations and young people.
    Responsible, organised, reliable and able to work independently.
    Passionate about exploring humanitarian issues and values.
    Able to travel to and lead a workshop each week, usually between 9am and 5pm, with the opportunity for occasional evenings or weekends. Workshops take place at different times so flexibility is desired.
    Recognise the value of equality, diversity, and inclusion in the work that we do.
    Able to commit to the role for a minimum of 9 months.
    IT literacy, as well as access to IT.
