Umbrella Rate: £23.60 per hour
Duration: 05/02/2024 – 12 months initially
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 16:30, 37 hrs/week – Hybrid
YJS Education Officer role: Full JD Available
- To arrange effective and appropriate educational provision to meet the educational needs of young people engaged with the Youth Offending Service
- Work with and support young people in confronting barriers to learning
- Develop, oversee and utilise a range of ETE resources available to the Youth Offending Service for the educational engagement of young people
- To provide effective liaison between the Youth Offending Service, the Local Education Service, schools, colleges and other education providers, to ensure that young people of statutory school age receive appropriate educational provision and learning support
- Commission services for young people in line with assessed individual needs and plans
- Investigate educational absence within the YOS caseload
- Liaise with young people, families and carers to address provision and attendance concerns and provide support to facilitate them to participate in these processes, this will include home visiting as appropriate
- Encourage and promote regular attendance of pupils
- Identify the educational needs of young people which may be impacting on their offending behaviour
- Responsible for working with schools and parents in order to facilitate managed moves from mainstream to any provision within the education service
- Contribute to the assessment, supervision and support of young people engaged with the Youth Offending Service
- Assist with the implementation and regular review of support packages, Individual Education Plans and Pastoral Support Plans for each young person
- Work collaboratively with other agencies which seek to prevent offending by young people in the Criminal Justice System
- Maintain all necessary case management records
Essential Requirements
- Either qualification in:- Social Work (DipSW, Degree, CQSW, CSS or equivalent); Foundation Degree in Youth Justice; 2 years + police service; Probation diploma; Youth and Community Diploma; Nursing qualification; Teaching Qualification; Higher Level Teaching Assistant status
- Post Qualifying experience of working with young people, their families / carers in either an Education, Youth Justice or Youth and Community Work setting
- Demonstrate a sound working knowledge of legislation and guidance relating to young offenders and their families and the law relating to educational attendance
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of promoting high levels of school attendance and of the techniques for doing so
- You Must Have Right to Live & Work in the UK
- Enhanced Child and Adult DBS registered to the update service
