Salary: Grade 8, £33,945 - £38,223 per annum.

37 hours per week

1 x Temporary for 6 months

1 x Temporary for 12 months

Your role:

As a Youth Justice Worker you will be based in our East Youth Justice Team, delivering prevention, out of court disposal and court order work aligned to ‘child first’ principles. You will have a real can-do attitude to engage with children who have become known to the Youth Justice system and improve outcomes for them and victims. You will do this by taking a strengths-based and restorative approach combining high support with effective safeguarding and public protection practices where required. You will have the ability to take a whole family approach to Youth Justice work where necessary and be confident and skilled in partnership working.

About you:

You will have significant previous experience of supporting children who are in the Youth Justice system or at risk of entering it as a practitioner. You will understand the complexities of the associated risks and vulnerabilities that these children will have and be passionate about embedding ‘child first’ principles to drive positive change and outcomes.

You will:

  • Be highly motivated and enthusiastic with an ability to effectively manage and maintain positive change for children, reducing their likelihood of reoffending, helping them lead safer lives and protecting others
  • Be creative, tenacious and proactive in your approaches to working with some of the borough’s most vulnerable young people, combining high support with clear expectations
  • Be resilient, adaptable and able to work effectively with children and with colleagues/partners from other professional disciplines/organisations.
  • Be confident and capable in formulating assessments and plans that align with HMIP expectations
  • Be required to knowledge of current legislation and procedures relating to Youth Justice. The post holder will also have a good understanding of contextual safeguarding and an ability to work with this approach to extra-familial harm.

The Youth Justice teams are part of a wider Reach (Adolescent Service) offer, delivering an integrated targeted offer to young people across the borough, working to build safer, stronger and more resilient communities, which you will help lead.
