Job description

To work as part of a multi-agency team, supporting the aims and objectives of the Youth Offending Service and Durham Constabulary by: -

Delivering a youth justice service in accordance with the Out of Courts Disposal framework, to include assessments and interventions relating to pre-court programmes, pre-caution disposals, youth cautions and youth conditional cautions.

Facilitating the delivery of other Youth Offending reduction initiatives by Area or Support Services within the Force. Supporting local crime and disorder initiatives relating to children and young people at risk utilizing a partnership approach.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. To work with and support the Youth Offending Service (YOS) Police Officer in the delivery of youth out of court disposals and those identified at risk of criminality to prevent entry into the criminal justice services.

2. To assess the suitability of young people referred to the Youth Offending Service for out of court disposals. Preparing, reviewing and monitoring the progress of such disposals.

3. To carry out administration associated with the out of courts disposals process to include the updating of records and production of reports including effective intervention plans.

4. To implement tailored planned programmes of intervention to address the risk of offending and reoffending by working constructively with young people and their families.

5. To ensure the needs of victims of crime are addressed in accordance with guidance and the code of practice for victims of crime by regular communication with parents / carers and victims.

6. To assess services for young people and their families to integrate them within mainstream and specialist services ensuring that they have access to education / training, health and make constructive use of their leisure time thus encouraging social inclusion and improving lifestyle chances.

7. To gather and disseminate intelligence as appropriate utilizing police systems to assist multi-agency work and operational policing.

8. To obtain non-intimate biometric data (photos, fingerprints and DNA data) with consent.

9. Attend multi-agency meetings and contribute to YOS/policing aims; to support other professionals within the partnership to work effectively with young people and their families.

10. Prepare and deliver presentations to diverse audiences using a communication style appropriate to the audience.
