College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences / School of Law.
Open-ended post, available from 1st August 2024.
Full Time - 35 Hours Per Week.
This is an excellent opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic academic to join the School of Law as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Private Law (appointment dependent on experience). You should have an established teaching and research profile in Private Law as well as a proven commitment to promoting the student experience.
The School of Law strives to be a diverse and inclusive community. We particularly welcome applications from candidates belonging to groups that have been traditionally under-represented in the subject.
You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and assessment (including dissertation supervision) in Scottish Private Law and, in particular, family law or the law of obligations at undergraduate level and postgraduate level. You will work closely with colleagues in the Private Law subject area to further promote the Law School as a centre of excellence for teaching and research in Private Law.
The post-holder will also conduct excellent research and knowledge exchange activities in their area of expertise; and undertake management and administrative duties as directed by their Line Manager and/or Head of Subject Area. The successful applicant will have a record of achievement in and well-developed future plans for their research.
As well as a CV and cover letter, candidates are required to upload an outline (maximum 2 pages) of their research plans as part of the application process. Candidates are also asked to identify their two strongest publications (which may include work under review or accepted but not published) and explain why - in their view - these publications are both original and significant (a form is provided to facilitate the completion of this step). Candidates who are shortlisted for interview will be asked to submit what they consider to be their two strongest publications where available.

Ability to design and deliver research-led teaching at all levels of the curriculum in Private Law and, in particular, the law of obligations or family law, and to assess and supervise UG and PG students.
Ability to supervise research students in their dissertation work.
Ability to develop an innovative research profile and plan in the area(s) of expertise, including through high quality publications.
