About the role and school:
anzuk is collaborating with a Hammersmith Primary school to find a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant - Early Years to support a child in Reception. This role is full time from January until the end of the academic year with the potential of a permanent role in September 2024.
This school is a co-educational primary school for children aged 4 to 11 based in the heart of Hammersmith. Staff are committed to creating a love for learning through creativity, critical thinking and problem solving. They have a rich variety of extra-curricular activities, and a strong sense of community with active parental involvement.
1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant Job Description:
- Providing specialist support to a student in Reception with a high level of SEND (ASD diagnosis, sensory, speech and language, cognition)
- Supporting the student with speech and language, attention and listening skills, and emotional regulation
- Use different strategies for supporting children with ASD e.g. Makaton, visual supports, TEACCH workstation, emotional regulation etc
- Collaborate with the class teacher to support the learning and development of the student
- Support other SEN students in the classroom
- Assist in the preparation of learning materials, classroom activities and resources
- Encourage active participation and engagement in lessons
- Relevant experience working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), primarily Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in an educational setting
- Relevant Early Years or Key Stage 1 classroom experience (either mainstream or specialist setting)
- Be familiar with strategies to support children with ASD e.g. Makaton, visual supports, emotional regulation etc
- Be able to demonstrate patience and empathy when working with children, especially those with special educational needs
- The ability to work as part of a team and follow guidance from classroom teachers and senior leaders
- Must hold a clear Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate
- Certification in first aid and CPR (preferred but not required)
