Job description

Location: Bradford with hybrid working, you will be required to travel to sites around the Yorkshire Water Networks.


Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.


We have an exciting opportunity for a Academy Trainer / Assessor to join the People Change team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

The role of Academy Trainer is to provide an agile, flexible, holistic, and responsive learning support service to ensure the ongoing, competent and safe delivery of Yorkshire Water services to our operational and corporate function colleagues. The Academy trainer will establish and build on relationships with all stakeholders to ensure their learning is relevant and adds value to Yorkshire Water colleagues and supports our Big Ambition, whilst continuing to build on their own technical and H&S expertise to support the delivery of the Academies in-house, learning and development portfolio. As a trainer/coach of others, adherence to (learning delivery, assessment and YW wide) policies, procedures is paramount along with positive demonstration of YW values and behaviours.


Where you fit in:


As our Academy Trainer / Assessor you will


  • Understand the structure of YW, the H&S/Capability requirements for each of our business units and ensure this is reflected in learning and development delivery.
  • Proactively contribute and reactively inform learning product development and delivery through maintaining current, regulatory, relevant and YW related knowledge.
  • Work proactively with the Academy Hub to deliver the Academy learning schedule across the Yorkshire Region at any of our Academy Locations* (please note from time to time these sites may not be YW, but will be within the Yorkshire region)
  • Complete the learning and development cycle requirements for learning development (LNA, design, development and evaluation) within area of expertise, supporting others as and when required at different stages of the process.
  • Provide an agile and flexible service along with other colleagues to respond to a 24/7 business, – with some out of hours delivery required when needed.
  • Delivery of the full suite of Academy learning interventions and programmes once deemed competent by a subject matter expert.
  • To undertake assessment activity for accredited and non-accredited learning in line with external or accrediting body requirements – prioritising learning delivery and reliable assessment processes. This would include making and evidencing assessment decisions, participating in all internal and external quality assurance activities and meeting with accrediting body external quality assurers as and when needed.
  • Consistently review the validity, authenticity and sufficiency of all evidence submitted or observed as part of the assessment process, responding to any challenges/appeals via the learner complaints procedure.
  • Adopt a holistic approach to the assessment process as required by the awarding body.
  • To deliver other vocationally relevant learning as needed by the business
  • Support and fully endorse the policy and practice of Yorkshire water with regard to equality, diversity and inclusion.

What skills & qualifications you will need:


  • Ability to work flexibly day to day, providing high quality, customer service and responding to the needs of a large organisation
  • Knowledge of the pressure facing operational colleagues in a challenging environment
  • Experience of coaching, developing, and assessing delegates in the workplace
  • Experience of delivering Health & Safety related learning delivery and assessment activities including legislative health and safety requirements
  • Experience of developing own knowledge and associated products around topics relevant to your learners
  • Assessor qualification, level 3 or above
  • Accredited learning delivery or teaching qualification, level 3 or above
  • A Full UK Driving Licence is essential as travel will be required to sites across the Yorkshire Water Network

You will also benefit from having:


  • Wide range of H&S, First Aid, Plant & Equipment, or other technical qualifications
  • Coach/mentoring qualification level 5
  • Experience of delivering regulated qualifications
  • Experience of working in Confined Spaces – Ideally you will have extensive experience and qualifications in Confined Spaces high, medium & low risk including non-entrant, rescue, and recovery
