Title: Acoustic Engineer
Hybrid Working: Minimum 3 days in the office
Our opportunity
You will be responsible for engaging in the design, development, manufacture and test of acoustic transducers and Sonar hardware within the Thales MMS Acoustics Team. Acoustic Engineers are involved throughout the product engineering lifecycle, from research and initial design concepts through to supporting production and in-service product support.
Thales Underwater Systems (UWS) who design, develop and support Sonar Systems applications for anti-submarine warfare and mine hunting, have a fantastic opportunity for an Acoustic Engineer to join a small, specialised and ever-growing team.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
To conduct the design and development of the underwater sensing technologies of the future
Modelling, prototyping/proof of concept, acoustic testing, integration and qualification activities, design for cost/manufacture, technical reporting
To conduct research on novel and low maturity sensing technologies and materials
Work with our Operations teams to support the manufacture and test of deliverable hardware.
Support the enhancement of in-house acoustic test methods and facilities
Complete activities in accordance with company procedures, safety and security regulations
Actively engage in continuous personal development, working with your Team Leader to build a fulfilling career development path
Skills and Expertise
A Master’s degree or equivalent in an appropriate engineering, maths or science discipline (e.g. acoustics, physics, product design, manufacturing engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering)
Have a background in acoustics
Prior experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modelling is a plus
Knowledge of transduction materials
Knowledge of relevant physics (e.g. acoustics, vibration and resonant systems)
Strong data analysis skills and sound mathematics
Experience in conducting basic experimental laboratory testing
A passion for undertaking underwater acoustic hardware research, design and development activities, interfacing with others as required
A logical problem solving approach
A team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude that performs effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment, promoting the values of inclusiveness and diversity
