Primary objectives for the Active Communities Manager will be:

  • To develop innovative interventions and programmes that reduce gaps in participation in sport and physical activity amongst residents of the Vale of Glamorgan
  • To contribute to achieving Sport Wales and the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s vision for health and well being by creating new, and further developing existing sport and physical activity opportunity, with a focus on increasing sustainable participation amongst the least active groups
  • Use evidence and insight to develop, implement and monitor an Active Communities Strategy plan that maximises the commercial returns from the Leisure Centres and reflects the needs to the community
  • To identify external funding sources and to actively apply for external funding to develop and deliver the programmes offered within the Vale of Glamorgan Contract.
  • To raise the profile of the Centres locally and nationally in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Coordinate and participate in projects and programmes within the Leisure Centres.
  • To fulfil the requirements set out in the Leisure Contract specification.

The Active Communities Manager will focus day to day on the following tasks:

  • To work in conjunction with local sports development officers, Public Health, third sector partners and community organisations to ensure all activities compliment and link to the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Sport Wales’ vision for opportunities.
  • To maximise participation and use of the centers including all courses and activities.
  • To meet and liaise, on a formal and informal level, with the client, the community, user and non-user groups.
  • To assist in the marketing and publicity of all activities and events and develop distribution networks for promotional materials and merchandising of products. Including corresponding with clubs, groups and individuals.
  • To produce information, reports and material to communicate matters relating to the programme, centre events and other associated activities.
  • To carry out surveys and produce reports to demonstrate the effectiveness of the service and the Active Communities Strategy Plan and identify commercial opportunities for future activities.
  • To recruit, induct and support casual coaches, ensuring they deliver quality sessions and adhere to Legacy Leisure's policies and procedures.
  • To undertake administrative and financial tasks including the management of project budgets.
  • To actively participate in developing a positive Health and Safety culture across the Leisure Centres.
  • To work closely with the local management teams on delivering the Active Communities Strategy Plan.
  • To undertake any other duties as may be required by the Contract Manager to ensure that the business objectives of the Contract are achieved.

Qualifications

  • The post-holder will have a recognised qualification in Leisure Management, Sports Development or a related subject.

  • One or more years in a sports development role

  • One or more years of experience in supervising or managing a team.

  • Hands on manager capable of managing a small team of dedicated and highly motivated staff
  • The ability to achieve agreed business targets by planning short, medium and long term strategic actions
  • Effectiveness in identifying problems, seeking relevant data, recognising important information and diagnosing possible causes
  • Quality focused
  • Strong IT Skills

The post holding will work flexibility, moving around the Vale leisure facilities impacts the contract as a whole.  A full driving license is required for this role. The role is also subject to a DBS check process.

Working hours will generally be Mon - Fri but there will be a need for evening and weekend working occasionally
