An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.The Nuclear Additive Manufacturing (AM) team was established in 2009 to support the manufacture of components for functional rig testing using Laser Powder Bed Fusion.  Operations within the AM team to fulfill rig requirements is now well established on both metal and polymer systems.  Development of AM has advanced rapidly into the manufacture of production components following the Manufacturing and Material Capability Acquisition (MCA and MatCAP) Rolls-Royce Group Procedures.  This has seen the capability in the group expanded to Twelve AM platforms with plans for continued growth in the years to come. In 2022, the AM team relocated into a new purpose-built facility at Raynesway with two new multi-laser LPBF machines and post-processing facilities.  In addition to production operations and MCA development, there are also a number of core research and development programmes relating to AM technology being coordinated through the AM Team.  These are focused on a variety of significant applications across Aerospace and Nuclear businesses globally.The successful candidate will lead manufacturing technology acquisition and New Product Introduction programs alongside R&D activities within the cells. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location.  It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement.  As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.What you will be doing:With this exciting opportunity you will get a chance to be involved in the following:Delivering Additive Manufacturing and materials capability acquisition programmes across a range of exciting opportunities including Submarines, Micro Reactors and Space.Support new AM machine development, selection and acquisition.Support the operations team with load/capacity planning of an agile operations environment that delivers the requirements of both production and R&T activities for a high-value industry.Support manufacturing operations in a £multi-million AM cell to solve technical issues and maintain machine availability.Champion a continuous improvement ethos that will ensure the ‘factory of the future’ vision is upheld through the use of digital tools.Support the MEM in implementing the AM Strategy to maximise the long-term benefits of AMWho we’re looking for:At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do.  These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria:Degree Qualified or Apprentice Trained in a relevant engineering or materials science discipline, however this is not essential as experience is equally beneficial.Knowledge of metal AM technologies, namely Laser Powder Bed Fusion or Direct Energy Deposition, would be preferred. Ideally this would also include an understanding of engineering design and specification, specifically concerning key design for AM principles, benefits and limitations.Experience with PLM/ CAD/ CAM/ MES packages relevant to Additive Manufacturing.Comfortable communicating with colleagues and customers at all levels and happy to challenge conventional processes and ways of thinking.Experience working with disruptive technologies and/or engaging with multiple complex projects simultaneously would be advantageous.Experience of the quality standards in high-value industries such as Civil Aerospace, Marine, Nuclear and Defence is preferred.We’re an equal opportunities employer.
