As part of this team, you will help us to provide a comprehensive range of integrated surface inspection, Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and condition monitoring services for all phases of the nuclear reactor lifecycle.Working closely with other development teams within the Inspection, Maintenance and Repair Services (IMRS) department, the NDE Research team is responsible for the identification, development and transfer of new and improved technologies into IMRS and the wider Submarines business. Current activities involve:Development of bespoke software for ultrasonic finite element simulationsDevelopment of permanently installed ultrasonic monitoring systemsDeployment of new phased array inspection techniques onto the nuclear plantDevelopment of guidance material to support justification of high integrity inspectionsDesign and support of high integrity inspection development and qualificationProject work ranges from research and development of solutions within IMRS to project management and technical oversight of subcontracted tasks (in both commercial companies and academic institutions), and leadership of tasks being conducted by doctoral students (including their supervision).There are often opportunities to attend national and international conferences and there is also strong support for engineers working toward chartership.
