You will be involved in providing consultation, assessment, advice, interventions, strategies, and training to remove barriers to inclusion, particularly for those children and young people with SEMH.

You will be based at the new Spindles Council Offices, Oldham but the role will include travel to schools and settings across the borough.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Advisory Teacher you will:

  • Identify and share evidence informed good practice across schools, settings, and professional networks to build confidence and skills in supporting children and young people with SEND, particularly those with SEMH
  • Promote and share advice on the implementation of the Oldham inclusion framework and graduated response to shape policy and practice within educational settings.
  • Carry out assessments and offer specialist advice and guidance to schools and settings on SEND.
  • Be aware of and understand National and Local initiatives and priorities, and the implications for children with SEND in Oldham.
  • Assist schools and the local authority in improving provision for and monitoring the progress of pupils with SEND, particularly those with SEMH.
  • Deliver training at whole school / local authority level

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status and have successful experience as a SENCo, Senior Inclusion Leader, Senior Mental Health Lead, Advisory Teacher or equivalent role.
  • Experience of planning a curriculum that supports all pupils, including those with SEND, to learn more, and know more over time.
  • Considerable experience of working in classrooms and education settings providing inclusive high-quality teaching for pupils with SEND, particularly those with speech, language communication needs including autism.
  • Up to date and comprehensive knowledge of SEND legislation and the Code of Practice including the Graduated Response.
  • Knowledge of strategies, approaches, and resources appropriate for children with SEND, particularly those with difficulties in Speech, Language and Communication, Autism, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health and other high incidence needs
