Job description

Job description

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a committed and motivated Advisory Teacher for Vision Impairment.

We are seeking to appoint a full time, permanent Advisory Teacher for Vision Impairment to join our Sensory Support (SENS) service in Ealing. A job share would be considered for the right candidates.

Ealing is a diverse London Borough with a commitment to providing high quality support to families, schools and settings to enable them to include children and young people with a range of vision impairments.

We are passionate about enabling children with vision impairment to achieve their best educational and wellbeing outcomes. The service is part of ESCAN (Ealing Services for Children with Additional Needs) that includes health therapy services such as Speech and Language Occupational Therapy, Audiology and the Child Development Team, as well as Educational Psychology and the SEN Assessment Service. There is real opportunity for multiagency working.

We have a good relationship with our schools and early years settings. It is possible to use public transport to carry out visits in the Borough. However, as the post will frequently involve working in more than one location daily, a full clean driving licence would be an advantage. Public transport and mileage costs are paid.

If you are:

  • a qualified teacher of Vision Impairment
  • or an experienced teacher who is currently undertaking training for the mandatory qualification,
  • or a qualified teacher who is willing to undertake the training for the mandatory qualification.
  • are flexible and creative with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • keen to work within a team which believes in a proactive, multi-disciplinary approach to inclusion.
  • committed to developing inclusive educational practices.

We would welcome your application for this post.

A Teaching and Learning Responsibility allowance is being offered to qualified teachers of vision impairment for taking on an area of responsibility within the service. For experienced qualified teachers willing to undertake the mandatory training, you would be employed as a teacher with 1 SEN point until you are qualified. The qualification would be achieved through distance learning through designated providers and funded by Ealing Council.

For further information, please telephone Susanna Memon 07590626015.

Ealing council is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. Ealing follows safer recruitment practices to protect children and vulnerable adults. The post holder will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

This role is subject to Ealing Council’s enhanced vetting process.

We would be happy to receive applications from full time and part time teachers.

Closing date: Monday 15 April.
