At a glance

This is a hybrid working role, therefore your time will primarily be split between working from home and Bracknell /London/ Head Office. However, there will also be an expectation to visit other locations as the need arises.

The salary range for this role is set at £67,000.00 - £128,000.

What’s the role about?

We have an exciting opportunity to join the John Lewis Partnership as an Agile Lead with a focus on Capability Building and Scaling Agile principles. In this role, you will have a key focus on building internal capability with regard to agility and scaled agile practices aimed at improving portfolio effectiveness across both Brands John Lewis and Waitrose

You will Partner with teams across the business, from those already skilled in agile ways of working to those embarking on an agile learning journey, to take new products and strategic priorities from idea through to implementation.

You will be responsible for working with teams to understand what they need, building a development plan and delivering suitable training, mentoring or coaching interventions with the goal of improving performance and value delivery.

We are looking for a passionate individual responsible for delivering customer and business value through the development of a capability system that supports agile ways of working and a framework for scaling agile principles to the portfolio level .

Experience in the use of systems principles for study and redesign would also be preferable with the experience of building capability for internal colleagues in both professional and operational roles.


What will you be doing?

  • Champion agile adoption throughout the organisation by working with teams to improve the flow of value

  • Leading a small internal team and liaising with the learning team to rapidly scale agile learning products

  • Leverage appropriate agile principles, tools and techniques to help the Partnership adopt agile at scale and embed new ways of working at the portfolio and senior levels

  • Train Partners/teams in Agile and Lean principles, and then help the team members put their training into action. Having trained trainer experience and certification will be beneficial

  • Evangelise agile ways of working across the organisation and industry to drive awareness and adoption, create engagement and ensure we are at the forefront of latest thinking.

  • Actively participate in building a culture of continuous improvement across the organisation.

  • Be an active member of the profession, building a Community of Practice within the Partnership.

Essential Skills

  • Proven Experience as an Agile at scale designer/Lead working with multiple cross-functional teams.

  • Experience of leading in an agile transformation in a large corporate organisation with regard to scaling principles.

  • Experience in developing and delivering training and have an understanding of how people learn.

  • Agile frameworks and/or coaching qualifications.

  • Experience of using scaled agile principles to enable an agile investment process

  • Experience in the use of systems principles for study and redesign

  • Able to communicate and educate the executive team on the benefits of agile portfolio management

  • Proven ability to articulate agile methods, tools and terms to teams and executives alike.

  • Knowledge & experience of Agile teachings, approaches, and behaviours and of helping both teams and the wider organisation to address the dysfunctions that may result from teams and others misinterpreting, ignoring or rejecting Lean and Agile values and principles.

  • Agile frameworks and/or coaching qualifications.

  • Experience of working with non-technical teams to introduce and hone agile ways of working to deliver customer value.

  • Experience in building capability for internal colleagues in both professional and operational roles
