Meta is hiring an
AI Policy & Governance Manager with expertise in AI policy issues to join our
AI Policy Team. In this role, you'll help shape the company's approach to AI across our suite of products and services, and grapple with some of the trickiest policy questions with regards to the development of AI.In this role, you'll work closely with product managers, engineers, public policy managers, external stakeholders, and cross-functional partners across the company to advise on industry and AI ecosystem best practices for developing AI responsibly. You'll serve as a deep subject matter expert on AI for Meta’s global policy team and work with our teams to evaluate and respond to legislative and regulatory developments, and engage with external experts on the most prominent AI issues around the world. You’ll also write executive briefs for leadership as engagement around AI continues to ramp up globally.A strong candidate will be familiar with AI and the most relevant debates in AI policy, including fairness, transparency, generative AI, open source, safety, and governance, as well as how they relate to regulatory and legislative developments across the globe. Ideally, you should be familiar with the role that AI standards play globally, both formal and informal. Experience in stakeholder engagement and confidence in public speaking would be a real asset in this role.You should be a proactive self-starter, a team player, and a creative problem solver who is able to switch easily between detailed work and high-level strategic thinking. You should also have an understanding of and familiarity with the stakeholders and perspectives in the AI community and be able to use your knowledge to promote the responsible building of AI in Meta’s products and services, and drive improvements across the industry.This is a full time position based in our London office.
AI Policy & Governance Manager Responsibilities:
- Developing AI Strategy on specific issues from inception to completion
- Capacity building for the greater policy team on AI policy issues, informed by deep technical expertise and experience
- Assessing and evaluating the impact various AI standardisation efforts
- Preparing leaders for AI engagements, and engaging with policy makers and influencers in the space
- Bridging AI Policy & regulatory developments with product needs and business priorities
- Synthesising knowledge and understanding (technical and policy) of responsible AI development processes: Risk & Impact Assessments (inc. NIST AI RMF), bias mitigations, safety and robustness, and transparency tools such System Cards to leadership, policy org and product teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience working in AI policy, AI product management, AI programme management, or related field
- Bachelor's degree in political science, policy, law, marketing, social science, computer science or related field
- Knowledge of key AI policy issues and the surrounding debate: accountability, existential risk, generative AI, transparency, privacy, bias, misuse and misinformation, and an experience to leverage this knowledge for cross policy talking points, and leadership capacity building.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the EU AIA, US, UK, and other key jurisdictions (Singapore, Brazil, Canada) and how these regulatory environments and broader policy debates impact Meta’s business.
- Extensive knowledge of global AI regulations and their impact and relevance for foundation models, generative AI, frontier models, transparency, fairness, and safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
- JD or Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant subejct
- Experience working on technology law or policy in more than one of these three categories: (1) civil society or academia, (2) company or firm, or (3) government
- Working familiarity with key privacy and AI policy stakeholders and experts from civil society, academia, and government
- Experience working directly with senior business executives and/or high-ranking government officials
