Our Digital Business Services teams are the foundation of HSBC, providing essential support across technology, operations and key central business services for our global businesses and functions.

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of AI Research Scientist.

In this role, you will:

•    Conducting research and experimentation to develop new AI/LLM ideas, tools, algorithms, and techniques.
•    Processing and analyzing large-scale datasets to extract insights and patterns.
•    Collaborating with domain experts to understand specific industry challenges and develop tailored AI solutions.
•    Conducting experiments to evaluate and compare the performance of different AI models and approaches.
•    Optimising and fine-tuning AI models for performance, scalability, and efficiency.
•    Keeping up-to-date with the latest research advancements and attending relevant AI conferences and workshops.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

•    In-depth knowledge of AI algorithms, techniques, and frameworks is essential.  Detailed understanding of RNNs, LSTMs, and curucially self-attention/transformer architectures and their modern variations is essential. 
•    Deep understanding of fine-tuning techniques (e.g., LoRA) and their variants.
•    Understanding of the complex problems associated with LLMs such as claim extraction, interpretability, evaluation of output, etc.
•    Strong programming skills are necessary, with frameworks commonly used in LLMs. (TensorFlow, PyTorch, LangChain, etc, Hugging Face) 
•    A solid understanding of the mathematics behind transformers, other LLM techniques and Deep Learning in general.
