We are the UK's aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, protecting people and enabling aerospace to meet the highest safety standards. We pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

Airworthiness is a key sector of the CAA and is responsible for the safety oversight programme for production, maintenance, continuing airworthiness, and maintenance training approvals, plus engineer licensing and aircraft imports, exports and surveys. The department works with industry stakeholders and customers to ensure that aircraft, and associated technologies, are operating to world-class safety standards.

To this end, we are currently recruiting for Airworthiness Surveyors, a role which includes, the Performance Based Regulatory Oversight of approved airworthiness organisations and individuals. You will deliver outcome focused oversight that applies Performance Based Oversight principles and meets statutory compliance obligations.

Additionally, it will be your role to establish relationships with and influence industry nominated persons, stakeholders and customers to continually improve safety management, performance, risk and compliance. This will require you to regularly travel within the UK and occasionally overseas.

As a department we collaborate and work flexibly to support the work of our colleagues within Airworthiness and other areas of the CAA. It's this spirit of partnership and teamwork that allows us to rise to the challenge and foster an encouraging work environment.

About You

  • You will have extensive industry experience in a range of areas including, Production, Maintenance, continuing airworthiness, maintenance training and hold either a Part-66 License or an appropriate engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Ideally have held the position of a nominated person in continuing airworthiness, production, maintenance, or maintenance training organisations.
  • We are looking for a good communicator with the ability to evaluate, analyse and ensure compliance against safety objectives whilst remaining flexible and proportional in your approach.
  • You need a good knowledge of regulatory rules coupled with personal attributes to engage and be influential within the CAA and with industry. Given the level of influencing and negotiation that the role requires, management experience would be a distinct advantage.
  • You should be familiar with regulatory requirements such as the Air Navigation Order, BCARs, UK Regulations and advisory material.
  • Your experience of Quality Management Systems will be matched by a good grasp of IT and Safety Management Systems used within aviation.

Additional Information

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 3 years.

If you do not meet these requirements, we may not be able to accept your application.

For more information on CTC clearance please visit - Vetting explained - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

The CAA values high ethical standards and personal integrity among employees. If invited for interview you will be asked to complete a declaration of interest.
