Job description

To work within both the nursing/ AHP and multi-disciplinary team to provide evidence based, holistic care to Perioperative patients from admission to discharge in the department. To be a safe and effective practitioner able to provide patients and relatives with a high standard of Perioperative care. To provide skilled assistance in all areas of the Operating Department and associated areas and act as a professional member of the Perioperative team. To provide high standard of evidence based patient care without direct supervision using best practice.
To maintain confidentiality at all times, and to support patients, relatives, and carers. To facilitate, motivate, supervise, and teach learners/ Students in thePerioperative environment to include pre-registration student nurses, operating department practitioners, return to healthcare ODP/ Nursing students, adaptation nurses and health care assistants. Also post registration nurses and Operating Department Practitioners undertaking CPD programmes. Plan and prepare equipment according to patients needs and procedures Monitoring and assessing patients condition, responding to changes in condition, proposing/ making changes to immediate and long term care as appropriate To comply at all times with the NMC/ HPC Code of Professional Conduct at all times To plan, implement and evaluate programmes of Perioperative care without supervision.
To carry out clinical duties throughout the operating department in accordance with the Trust policies and procedures Recognise, resolve or take action in situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of patients and colleagues. To report all incidents/ adverse events in a timely manner in accordance with Trust policy. Work within the anaesthetic room / theatre/recovery effectively and efficiently. To ensure all patients and visitors are treated in a polite and considerate manner and receive prompt assistance when required.
To participate in the Operating Department out-of-hours on-call rota as required. To work night duty, evenings and weekends as required. To participate and assist in setting standards of patient care based on sound evidence-based findings, implementing these into practice. To participate in quality assurance/ CQC initiatives within the trust, and to participate in the implementation of clinical governance with the department To ensure the ordering/storage and administration of drugs is conducted with strict adherence to the legal requirements and Trust policy Be responsible for the checking, setting up and safe use of all medical devices used on patients and take the appropriate action/ report in the event of faulty devices.
To ensure all record keeping is legible, accurate and contemporaneous and in accordance with Trust policy and departmental procedure. To provide expert clinical skills to Satellite areas outside of the Operating Department to include ECT suite, CCU, MRI Scanner and the obstetric theatre and obstetric procedure room. To provide clinical assistance in outlying areas when requested. To perform other duties as reasonably required to assist in the smooth running of the Operating Department Please see job description and person specification for more details.
