Job Title:Animal Assistant
Location: Dudley

Pay rate: £12.20 per hour

Hours: Flexible (morning and evening shifts)

Contract: Part-time, casual

Black Country Living Museum is seeking an Animal Assistant to care for the well-being of our furry and feathered friends. You'll have the opportunity to contribute directly to the daily feeding and general care of our animal residents. Our horses, pigs, and chickens are not just animals; they’re integral to the visitor experience, helping us bring history to life!

What are the duties?

  • Performing husbandry tasks like mucking out, grooming, and moving bags of food and bales of hay weighing up to 20kg.
  • Assisting with feeding animals during periods when Animal Handlers are unavailable.
  • Occasionally acting as a groom for cart driving around the site, necessitating climbing in and out of the cart and responding promptly to situations.
  • Liaising closely with Animal Handlers and Team Managers to ensure the well-being and care standards of our animals are maintained.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience of working with and caring for animals.
  • Able to recognise the importance of adhering to procedures to uphold care standards and routines.
  • Possesses a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Able to balance attentiveness to animal needs with maintaining the health and safety of all individuals at the museum.
  • Ideally, familiar with Defra guidelines for the care of horses, pigs, and chickens (desirable but not essential).

Who are we?

  • Opportunity to learn new skills.
  • Competitive rewards & benefits.
  • Supportive & inclusive work culture.
