Alternative Provision (AP) Keyworker - Ref: CH09623
Grade: G6 (15-23) Salary: £27,803 - £32,076 per annum
Contract: Fixed term 12 months, full time - 37.5 hours
Location: Hybrid working. Office working will be from the Civic Centre, Walsall, with travel to Alternative Provisions throughout the Walsall Borough and neighbouring Local Authorities.
Walsall Council is seeking to recruit a skilled and enthusiastic Alternative Provision Keyworker to gain the best possible educational outcomes for pupils in Alternative Provision. Alternative Provision Keyworkers support vulnerable pupils, often with complex needs, during their transitions in and out of Alternative Provision and ensure they access the right support at the right time. It is a fast-paced role so you will need to be able to manage your own caseload independently and as part of the team, quickly adapt to new circumstances and juggle multiple daily tasks. You will need excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as knowledge of the education legislation plus, the ability to reflect on practice and improve as a result.
The Alternative Provision Keyworker role will positively support pupils by:
  • Raising the achievement and aspirations of pupil’s attending Alternative Provision (AP).
  • Identifying suitable AP placements for excluded pupils or pupils at risk of exclusion, within specified timescales with relevant stakeholders.
  • Promoting and supporting positive participation in education.
  • Being a key point of contact for pupil’s and develop a working relationship with a range of external agencies to ensure progression and appropriate support.
  • Being a key point of contact for parents and pupils with AP to support a wide range of pastoral issues and concerns.
  • Being part of the wider safeguarding team for all pupils within AP, with DDSL responsibilities where required.

The ideal candidate for this role must have:
  • Experience of Alternative Provision and working with children and young people.
  • Experience of safeguarding within education settings.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Time management skills with the flexibility to adapt to changing workload demands.
  • A full driving licence and vehicle available for travel across the Walsall Borough and neighbouring LA’s.
