The Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship is a paid job where the employee learns and gains valuable, real-life experiences.
We are looking for apprentices to join our Manufacturing Engineering teams located at our Desford facility (LE9 9JT). Our Manufacturing Engineering team is responsible for designing and improving our high-quality low-cost processes to allow us to efficiently assemble and test our building and Construction products.
Our apprentices will:
Earn a competitive salary package, starting at £19,852 per year and rising annually throughout program to a finishing apprenticeship wage of £29,407.
Receive 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays,

We also have an onsite sports and social club and gym
In collaboration with our partnered training provider, University of Coventry , our 5-year degree apprenticeship scheme will enable you to grow and develop your capabilities. Alongside on-the-job training supported by relatable mentors, apprentices will spend at least 20% of their working hours completing learning leading to nationally recognised qualifications through the Level 6 Manufacturing Engineer apprenticeship standard:
Level 6 Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeship certificate , and
BEng (Hons) Manufacturing Engineering
As part of this programme apprentices are required to attend university
The Experience
Manufacturing Engineering team:
The key activities of our Manufacturing Engineer team include the technical analysis of manufacturing processes across assembly, test, and paint lines in all aspects of production, cost, quality, compliance to safety standards and environmental requirements. Apprentices are responsible for driving performance and efficiency improvements into existing processes, ensuring the business can deliver customer requirements of quality, cost, and demand, whilst also ensuring our processes adhere to established standards, policies, and practices.
Apprentices will work closely with a wide range of functions within the business, including Operations, Quality, Design Engineering and Supply Chain. This will ensure they develop the skills needed to become successful Manufacturing Engineers within Caterpillar. This apprenticeship will allow apprentices to undertake placements across the business in multiple critical functions.
Entry Requirement
GCSEs (Level 2): Mathematics and English at Grade 4 (C) or above
A Levels (Level 3):
-112 points from three A levels including mathematics and a Science based subject (three ‘C’ grades or equivalent)
-Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Engineering or a related subject with a Merit, Merit, Merit profile.
NOTE: Equivalent academic qualifications to the above requirements welcome. You can apply with predicted grades. If you’re successful at the interview stage, the job offer will be conditional on you achieving the required grades before September 2024.

Recruitment Timeline
Closing Date: 17th March
Assessment Centre Date (in-person): Target March/April
Employment Start Date: September 2, 2024 (provisional)
The panel cannot make assumptions when shortlisting therefore please demonstrate your skills and experience on your application relevant to the criteria outlined.
Pending the number of applications, the criteria for the position may be enhanced to facilitate shortlisting.
Recruitment Process
Stage one – Online Application: The first stage of the process is to complete the online application; this must be done before the closing date of the role that you're applying for. Once we reach the close date, we will begin reviewing all our applications, this may take a little while and we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know if you have been successful in moving forward to the next stage.
Stage two – Assessment Centre: The half day assessment centre (i.e. interview) will look at a range of behaviours such as teamwork, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. Each will consist of a group exercise, an interview and a presentation. Details will vary depending on the career area/role you are applying for. We aim to make these days fun, inclusive and as relaxed as possible.
Stage three – Offer: After the assessment centre, the Caterpillar team will review the feedback and extend offers to our chosen candidates, we aim to do this as quickly as possible.
Apprentices will join the business in September 2024.
