About UK Assessment & Qualifications

We are responsible for the delivery of nearly 4 million examination results per annum, including A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and T-levels for students in UK and International centres. Our in-house systems process every learner from registration to marking and certification, in a highly regulated business. We currently operate a hybrid estate of predominantly bespoke systems, with an ongoing strategic transformation programme to migrate from on-prem to cloud based, cost effective, scalable, and resilient services.

The Role

Are you eager to kickstart your journey as a UX Researcher? We're seeking a dynamic individual to join our UX team as an Apprentice UX Researcher. In this role, you'll collaborate with UX professionals, gaining hands-on experience in conducting user research and contributing to the design of user-centered products. With guidance from experienced mentors, you'll have the opportunity to grow your skills and make a meaningful impact on our digital experiences. You will be enrolled as Level 4 Digital , which will help you develop your skills and knowledge and can take up to 4 years to complete.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with UX, UI, and Accessibility specialists to understand research needs and industry trends.
  • Conduct inclusive research to ensure product accessibility and usability.
  • Provide strategic insights aligned with team objectives.
  • Speak to customers to create personas and other UX artifacts.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and evaluate research topics.
  • Plan and execute research activities such as user testing, surveys, and focus groups.
  • Attend customer calls and field-testing trips to understand needs and pain points.
  • Collect and analyse data from various sources to inform design decisions.
  • Advocate research findings through presentations and reports.
  • Perform usability studies and analyse data.
  • Utilise a diverse set of UX research tools.
  • Support the design team with research tasks.
  • Liaise with Customer Ops and Customer Success teams for feedback.

  • Familiarity with UX design, ideally through collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Interest in enhancing user outcomes.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies, data analysis, and user testing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive independently and in team environments.
  • Experience organizing and managing research activities.
  • Skill in translating key outcomes into actionable research tasks.
  • Familiarity with design software like Figma and Figjam.
  • Basic understanding of design processes.
  • Proficiency in collecting and analyzing data.
  • Ability to create and maintain research reports.

Entry Requirements

Candidates for the Degree Apprenticeship should have a minimum of 104 points at A2 (Grades BCC) or an equivalent eg BTEC DMM. We will individually evaluate candidates who do not meet these requirements, but have workplace experience or have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Job Location and Hours

The role is aligned to our Manchester Office.

We work a 37.5-hour week, with all our team free to flex their day around our core hours, which are Monday to Friday, 10 to 4 GMT/BST. School runs, etc can be accommodated. Other flexible working patterns can be considered, including part-time working and non-traditional hours.
