We are looking for a Apprentice Materials Controller who will be based in our clients Swavesey.
You will need to drive as it is a rural location and will need to travel to West Suffolk college twice a month for your apprenticeship training.
Progression/Training opportunities
- Day release every fortnight to West Suffolk College, Bury St Edmunds to achieve the Level 3 Procurement and Supply qualification.
- Can progress onto the Level 4 Commercial Procurement and Supply qualification.
- Train to obtain a fork lift licence.

As an Apprentice Materials Controller, you will be a member of the Materials team, developing skills in purchasing, inventory control and expediting for the relevant areas. You will be ensuring that materials required for build and the wider business are provided achieving quality, delivery and cost goals. This is a very varied role, working closely with other departments across the IIJ family.
Key Responsibilities
- Picking, kitting and packing of internal and external orders.
- Goods receiving and warehousing procedures.
- Indirect purchasing including contractors.
- Purchase supplies and materials according to specifications.
- Maintain relationships and negotiate with suppliers.
- Maintain relationships with colleagues and other departments in a role integral to and influencing all departments.
- Maintain accurate computer records on Sage.
- Maintain a clean and tidy working environment.
- Assist in forecasting and reviewing supply versus demand to plan for future orders.
- Visiting suppliers and attending trade shows.
- Assist in contract writing.
Desirable Skills/Education/Experience
- GCSE minimum level 4 or equivalent in English and Mathematics.
- Highly organised with great attention to detail.
- Willingness to continually learn and develop as an individual.
- Great communication skills and ability to work with staff across all levels.
- A pro-active team player but equally able to work independently.
- Computer literate.
- Able to make conceptual connections between their own area and other disciplines.
- Able to anticipate and suggest action accordingly.
