What is the job role?

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Approved Mental Health Professional to join an experienced and well-established AMHP team, with excellent terms and conditions. The residents of Coventry come from a variety of backgrounds and in order to deliver the best Mental Health Care we require an AMHP workforce that both represents and is aware of the specific needs of the communities we serve. As a Coventry City Council employee you will be employed under s.75 NHS Act (2006) and will therefore work closely with the Home Treatment Team within Coventry.

You will be expected to:-

  • contribute to the 24/7 AMHP rota (shifts will include:- 9am-5pm, 11am to 7pm, 2pm to 10pm, 2pm to 10pm with a late on call through the night (you will have a protected shift following the late on call shift))
  • respond to requests for assessments under the Mental Health Act (1983)
  • develop personalised and least restrictive home treatment plans to prevent compulsory admission
  • complete assessments under Care Act (2014) and MCA (2005) as required
  • write and present Social Circumstance Reports to Mental Health Review Tribunals
  • work very closely with a wide range of NHS and muti-disciplinary colleagues

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).


Who are we looking for?

If you are ready for the challenge you will need to demonstrate:

  • a genuine commitment to meeting the needs of individuals in acute Mental Health need
  • a high standard of legal literacy with respect to all relevant legislation, including the Human Rights Act (1998)
  • you are an excellent Team player
  • are well organised and able to prioritise urgency of risk
  • applied knowledge of Mental Health Act (1983), Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Care Act (2014) and their codes of practice
  • diplomacy, negotiation and active listening skills with all relevant audiences
  • anti-oppressive practice
