Job summary
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. As such using data to aid understanding of our workforce is vital.
TheRoyal Military Police Close Protection Unit(RMP CPU) is a unit within theBritish Army'sRoyal Military Police (RMP) that has designated responsibility for protecting senior military and government personnel when deployed overseas.
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to work in a highly motivated logistics team supporting both training and global operations. This is a warehouse and storekeeping position within the team.
You will be responsible for the daily management of deployed Articles in Use (AinU) for deployed locations. This will include sourcing, issue, receipt and account for all kit, equipment and weapons held in each of the deployed locations.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
  • Issue, receipt and account for all kit, equipment and weapons held in each of the deployed locations for training and operations.
  • Update the Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI) system to ensure all items can be correctly accounted for.
  • Responsible for managing and demanding Defence Accommodation Stores (DAS) for the unit and accommodation blocks.
  • Responsible for reporting all faults and repairs correctly and maintaining a fault register.
  • Provide support to the Motor Transport (MT) department regarding transport management, maintenance management, transport allocation and resourcing of Close Protection Unit vehicle fleet in accordance with Defence Policies and UK / EU Directives.
  • Assist with the management of CPU Driver training records and managerial checks.
  • Assist with managing and the quality assurance of the unit using Joint Asset Management Equipment Support Programme (JAMES) platform.
Person specification
We need an individual who is enthusiastic and proactive to improve the logistical services supporting our Service Personnel deployed overseas.
Person Specification:
We are looking for someone who has:
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Basic digital literacy must be competent in Microsoft packages such as Word and Excel
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to react positively to changing, demands and priorities.
  • Be able to understand the importance of following manual handling regulations.
  • Be able to work closely in a team with their civilian and military colleagues, as well as managing their own time effectively.

Essential Criteria:
  • The job holder must have a valid UK driving licence to be able to conduct deliveries of light freight for deployed locations, to The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and other UK Military installations.
  • Competent with Microsoft packages
  • Able to undertake manual handling tasks.

The working week is 37 hours with flexibility to agree a daily work pattern.
A modern apprenticeship is a combined package of work and training. Through the schemes available you will gain a professional qualification, practical experience, and the broader skills required to develop in your current role and pave the way for your future career. Most of the training will be on-the-job, with the remaining off-the-job training delivered by an external training provider. This means minimal disruption to your work alongside a big developmental opportunity.
Professional qualifications which can be achieved through an apprenticeship range from Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs/ broadly equivalent to Scottish National 5s(N5s)), Level 3 (equivalent to 2 A Levels//broadly equivalent to Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher (H/AH)), and Levels 4 -7, which can give you a foundation degree, a full Bachelors degree, or a Masters degree. They normally last between 12 months - 3 years, depending on the level of the apprenticeship.

A Great Place for Veterans to Work scheme which was introduced by the Government in 2020 under the Veterans Strategy Action Plan which included the commitment of making the Civil Service a great Place to Work for Veterans. To be eligible for this scheme in the Civil Service, candidates must meet the minimum standard for the role being applied for and:

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
