Job description

Major Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Nuclear Assembly Operative for a leading client renowned as global industry leaders. This presents an outstanding opportunity for the ideal candidate.

As an Assembly Operative in our Nuclear Division, you play a crucial role in maintaining high-quality standards, ensuring targeted output levels, and prioritising safety in all aspects of our assembly processes. Working collaboratively as part of a dedicated team, you will contribute to enhancing work processes and participate actively throughout the entire project lifespan. This includes assisting with technical input, analysing results, and generating detailed written reports on production activities. Compliance with Nuclear Standards and Regulations is a fundamental requirement for this role.

  • Permanent position
  • Competitive rates of pay between £15.65ph - £18.74ph.
  • Twilight shift: Mon to Thurs 4.00 p.m. to 12.00 a.m., Friday 12.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
  • Night shift - Mon to Thurs 09.30 p.m. to 07:00 am
  • Immediate starts available for the right person
  • Close to public transport

Main Tasks:

  • Prepare work by studying assembly drawings, bills of materials, and parts lists, gathering necessary components, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
  • Assemble components according to drawing requirements and verify conformity.
  • Perform pressure testing and functional testing of assembled components.
  • Prepare finished parts for shipping to customers.
  • Prepare child parts for assembly, involving tasks such as polishing, local de-burring, cleaning, and packaging.
  • Analyse and resolve assembly problems, promptly notifying the Quality department.
  • Utilise standardized techniques, tools, and practices to contribute to product and continual process improvement efforts.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality forms.
  • Utilise computers to extract necessary data.
  • Contribute positively to a team working environment.
  • Continuously contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct testing in accordance with established procedures and drawing/design intent.
  • Precision finishing of piece parts and assemblies.

The role also encompasses general duties to uphold the efficient working of the department. This list of tasks is not exhaustive, and flexibility is expected to meet evolving business needs.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Methodical approach to systems with an understanding of the importance of standards and established/agreed systems of work.
  • Decisive with the ability to make informed decisions based on experience, confidence to act, and implement changes within specified boundaries.
  • Strong personal organisation skills, even under pressure from time constraints and demands of internal and external customers.
  • Adaptability and a quick learner of new techniques.
  • Computer literate.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to promote Fort Vale in a positive manner.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • At least 3 years of experience working in an engineering background with assembly experience.
  • Previous experience in lean manufacturing principles.

  • Adaptable across a broad range of work, from routine administration to assembly of parts.
