Assistant Buyer - Instore Bakery

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity within the Bakery, Dairy and Local category for an Assistant Buyer in Instore Bakery. The role also supports on the Instore Bakery Sweet and Bread Buying area so there is lots of scope for expanding responsibility. This role is suitable for those with current Buying experience or someone who would like to get into Buying.

Bakery, Dairy and Local is a high performing, highly energetic and motivated friendly team, and this exciting buying role gives you a broad insight into Instore Bakery working with Own Label and Branded suppliers on some of the UK’s best loved brands such as Krispy Kreme.

As well as incorporating the core buying skills in all year round and seasonal buying, this exciting role has lots of scope for development and premiumisation for customers.

This role is a key part of the buying team, supporting the Buying Manager to source and buy great quality products, giving our customers the best offer, range, and seamless instore experience.

You will be responsible for

• Supporting your manager to manage supplier performance to build long term supplier relationships
• Using insight tools to analyse and understand performance issues and opportunities.
• Strong critical path management and organisional skills to manage a complex operational category
• Conducting regular store/website visits and reviewing customer insight and food trends, helping shape our future product and range requirements for our customers
• Helping to build and source customer/market insight led ranges and product innovation
• Negotiating with suppliers to agree and deliver market leading buy/move/sell plans for the areas aligned to the customer plan & category strategy with support from your manager
• Supporting delivery of trade, promotions & events plan, striving to exceed KPIs, drive footfall and forecast accurately
• Working with the Supply Chain and Store Operations teams to support our instore teams to deliver a seamless and high quality customer experience
• Working with suppliers and the category quality team to ensure product quality is achieved and maintained
• Adhering to all Tesco policies, storage and handover protocols and successfully completing all your training so that you have zero GSCOP breaches. Ensuring all agreements are recorded in writing, reporting GSCOP complaints to Legal within 48 hours of receipt
• Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence
