Job Description
Base salary: £30150 to c£37700 depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 15% which is paid on top base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.
The Assistant Design Manager will work within the HS2 Design Directorate in the Design Management team to support the design leadership and implementation of the HS2 Design Vision . The Assistant Design Manager will be required to work with the team to ensure that budgets and spend are aligned, carry out reporting and manage external frameworks to support the SME teams. This role requires the ability to inform and develop a variety of design processes, deploy a range of communication material and media and the ability to manage consultants both internally and externally to drive forward the Design Vision objectives. You will be expected to interface with and work alongside a variety of teams, harnessing their skill sets and managing project timelines. A focus of the role will be across all HS2 Phases.
About the role

• Support the implementation, communication and dissemination of the Design Vision
• Assist in and manage the involvement of HS2's communications, Design Panels, Events and Budgeting and Finance.
• Support the Design Panel secretariat, helping liaise with the HS2 design panels, and technical reviews.
• Assist the SMEs that the quality of design is appropriate, safeguarded and championed alongside the technical, commercial and programme requirements.
• Support with the integration of Design Leadership with other HS2 activities across the program.
• Liaise with other Directorates that cover Engineering, Environment and Innovation and support them in implementing the HS2 Design vision for their areas in design.
• Establish and maintain relationships with key design stakeholders across the organisation and externally and manage stakeholder engagement throughout the life of the Design process.
• Liaise with Procurement and assist with tenders and evaluations as required to support the engagement of design and creative teams.
• Liaise with design teams and report on the performance and progress of the design programme and processes to Head of Design Management and Design Director.
• Assist in developing and maintain appropriate design management plans and strategies.
• Support the Design Management Team with all design-related business needs.
• Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

About You
Skills:

• Ability to produce, assimilate information and present documents and reports to a variety of audiences, including internal stakeholders at various levels in the organisation. • Ability to deliver compelling and clear presentations to influence a broad audience and a diverse group of stakeholders.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work streams to meet agreed deadlines.

Knowledge:

• Bachelor degree level qualification, or equivalent experience in a relevant design design discipline for example Architecture, Landscape architecture or Urban Design.
• Membership of a Professional institution in a relevant design discipline.
• Knowledge of specifying, developing and embedding design requirements into design deliverables.

Type of Experience:

• Experience in a design and budget management role within major infrastructure project.
• Proven track record of delivering design excellence within a challenging programme and budget.
• Experience of architectural or urban design
• Experience in engaging with, influence, and manage internal and external stakeholders at operational level
