Derbyshire County Council is seeking an exceptional individual to fill the role of Assistant DirectorHighways Delivery. As a key member of our Highways team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our highways services, ensuring they align with our long-term vision and deliver exceptional results for our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Take charge of the strategic direction of our Highways Service, ensuring integration, collaboration, and alignment with the council's overall vision.
  • Performance Management: Foster a culture of performance excellence, ensuring high-quality, value-for-money services are consistently delivered.
  • Operational Excellence: Lead the operational delivery of highway services, overseeing everything from maintenance to major projects, ensuring they meet statutory requirements and deliver exceptional outcomes.
  • Financial Management: Manage budgets effectively, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Emergency Response: Coordinate emergency response efforts, ensuring plans are in place and effectively executed during crises.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement and transformation, seeking opportunities to enhance services and add value to our community.
  • Partnership Development: Forge strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, collaborating to share best practices and deliver outstanding results.

Experience and skills required:

  • Leadership: Proven experience in strategic leadership roles, with a track record of delivering results and driving change.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of highways management, including statutory responsibilities, project management, and financial management.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Innovation: A creative thinker with the ability to identify and implement innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Resilience: The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure, particularly during emergency situations.
