Job description

Salary up to £95,033 inclusive of allowances but is open to negotiation for exceptional candidates
With more than 47,000 officers and staff and a revenue budget of circa £4.4bn the Met is the UK’s largest police service.
The Met polices 620 square miles and serves more than eight million people across one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse cities.
London doesn’t stand still, and neither do we; the challenges and opportunities facing us are always changing. The capital’s population is growing and set to be almost 10 million within a decade. Advances in technology are changing social behaviour. The demand we face is increasing and crime is rising. This, coupled with the current level of funding, requires us to prioritise resources intelligently and maintain a keen focus on improving efficiency and productivity.
A New Met for London is the two year plan on how the Met will deliver more trust, less crime, and high standards. This plan is the product of more than 10,000 interactions with Londoners, our people, and partners from across the city. It represents what they’ve told us they want us to focus on. We’ve already made considerable progress in the last ten months, but there’s much more to do.
Our Assistant DirectorStrategic Finance Business Partners (Assistant Director SFBP) are (collectively and individually) the lead Financial Officers for a £4bn+ revenue budget. These are exceptional jobs for exceptional people; the responsibility and accountability that comes with the posts, cannot be overstated.
Assistant Director SFBPs provide leadership, influence, vision, financial challenge, direction, support and advice across our business, adding value by providing insightful financial analysis whilst acting as critical advisor on key financial decisions. Assistant Director SFBPs will work closely with the MPS Executives and play a key role in ensuring that the Metropolitan Police Service is driving best value within each business area.
We are looking for a self-starting individual who can gain credibility with MPS  Executive and Business Group senior management in order to play an important and active part in the strategic direction of MPS.
Additional responsibilities include:
Working closely with, and influencing, the MPS Executive and Business Group senior management to help drive business performance – ensuring high quality financial decisions are made within Business Groups and Services.
Owning and leading on the development and implementation of the financial strategy within the assigned functional area, working in close collaboration with the MPS Executive.
Providing objective strategic and tactical financial advice and opinions, to positively impact future choices of a Business Group.
Identifying and driving financial efficiency with Business Group management – ensuring they allocate resources effectively, with rigorous pressure on costs; commitment to value-for-money and improvements in operational delivery.
Providing objective challenge regarding spend and income generation plans and taking a proactive role in sourcing opportunities to deliver services more efficiently and effectively.
Supporting the dedicated Team in delivering long term financial strategy, focused on driving value and strategic management of funding across all business activity.

The successful candidate must be a qualified accountant (CCAB, CIMA or equivalent) with evidence of continuous professional development. You will have a track record of success in a senior finance leadership role, building trusting relationships with senior stakeholders and influencing them with impact and professional credibility. You will have experience of delivering major transformation programmes at pace, involving organisation and process re- design with a cost reduction and service improvement focus and successfully overseeing and delivering sustained modernisation and significant improvement to service provision. Crucially, you will be engaging and collaborative with a clear, strategic mind-set and outstanding communication skills with a high degree of political acumen to enable you to ‘hold your own’ in high-level interactions.
Please note: This role will be subject to security vetting.
The Met is committed to being an inclusive employer with a diverse and representative workforce at all levels. Applications are encouraged from people from the widest possible range of backgrounds, cultures and experiences. Applications from ethnic minority groups and females are particularly welcome.
As a Disability Confident committed employer, the Met has committed to ensuring that disabled people and those with long-term health conditions have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.
