EQUANS is looking for an Assistant Financial Accountant to join our team based at Quorum Business Park, Newcastle on a 15 month fixed term contract. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

General Overview:

The role holder will support the Financial Accounting Team in month end processes and the Business Partners and the Business by posting journals, providing reports, analysis and insights in support of management decision making.

What will you deliver?

  • Complete month end processes as defined in desk top procedures to pre agreed timetable
  • Review and process journals submitted from business partners
  • Produce high quality, actionable management information reports and insights
  • Be focussed on developing insightful value-added management information which allows the business to deliver optimal performance
  • Challenge existing ways of working and develop a continuous improvement culture
  • Instil a customer facing culture to enable the delivery of best in class services to all stakeholders
  • Work as part of a team in the completion of month end procedures as defined in the desk top procedures per the Service Level Agreement
  • Review and post journals submitted from the business whilst providing robust challenge to Finance Business Partners if required
  • Support the month end process with detailed analysis as needed, both on a regular monthly and ad hoc basis, delivering value added insights
  • Completion of balance sheet reconciliations including investigation and reporting on items at risk
  • Provide analysis and respond to management information requests, supporting and challenging appropriately in support of key business decisions
  • Support audit queries as required
  • Undertake or contribute to special projects as requested
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Business.

Who are we looking for?


  • Ideal role for a recent accounting graduate or someone wanting to start a professional qualification (ACCA or CIMA)
  • Experience of complex business processes and tools for large data analysis
  • Good at managing relationships particularly with the business / customers
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • MS Excel
  • SAP experience would be a bonus.
