Job description

Robert Walters are excited to be partnering with a global manufacturer in their search for an Assistant Financial Controller to join their Greater Manchester office on a permanent basis. Based in Wythenshawe, this role would suit an individual who has recently qualified within an accountancy practice and looking to move into industry.

Our client is offering a position that is incredibly multi-disciplinary in the sense that this role will offer the right individual a solid foundation in financial accounting, with additional exposure to commercial finance and projects. The role will manage the entirety of the day-to-day finance function to gain a comprehensive overview as to how a business works. The role will report into the Financial Controller but will have a high amount of interaction with management and sales teams across all business units in the Group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production of the annual budgets
  • Production of monthly forecasts
  • Review and maintenance of the risk register
  • Review of weekly cash forecasting
  • Review of KPIs (stock / credit control / margins / overheads / channels)
  • Review of month end files (in Excel)
  • Review of month end reconciliations files
  • Review of overheads analysis
  • Review of VAT returns
  • Signing off credit notes, rebates and warranty claims
  • Sustaining and utilising relationship with key contacts at the bank
  • Managing technical accounting issues
  • Controls / governance (oversee internal audit function) plus treasury and tax
  • Liaising with external auditors and leading the audit process
  • Commercial finance (pricing excellence and proposals) including exposure to key account customers
  • Projects such as e.g. working capital optimisation and mergers/acquisition activity, where relevant
  • Line management of the Finance Team, including setting and reviewing objectives, managing performance, appraisals and development


Key Skills:

  • Newly ACA Qualified within a practice organisation
  • Solid technical capabilities, with ability to use judgement in complex decisions
  • Confident and clear communication skills, with the ability to interact well with both internal and external contacts
  • Relentless pursuit of efficiency, never tolerating poor processes, but leading by example and forging new / better ways of working
  • Strong financial knowledge and experience, with a proven track record in dealing with large volumes of projects to deadlines
  • Ability to articulate / present ideas, together with a high level of IT knowledge (Excel)
