Assistant Head Teacher
SENDCO, Phase and Subject Leader for either Lower School or Upper School
Required for September 2024
To ensure that we have an agile leadership structure that meets the needs of pupils from a challenging contextual background, as well as being well placed to best respond to an ever changing educational landscape, we require a multi-faceted and experienced Senior Leader. In the first year, the teaching requirement will be 0.2; this will enable the post holder to focus on a range of key priorities and develop a newly created position. Please be advised that the teaching versus leadership balance of the role could change in the future, to meet need and/or respond to budgetary pressures.
A significant part of the role will involve leading on SEND. Experience, or a willingness to rapidly develop knowledge, using transferable skills in this area is therefore a key requisite. The successful candidate must be prepared to complete the National Professional Qualification for SENCOs in September 2024, if they do not already hold the NASENCO. It is therefore important that the prospective candidate fully considers if they have the required resilience, time and dedication to undertake this award alongside a new strategic post before applying.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Manage either Lower School (EYFS and KS1), or Upper School (KS2) functions
• Be the SENCO for either Lower School or Upper School
• Lead a core subject (Mathematics, English or Science)
• Lead on any aspect of school that is commensurate with the post.
It is envisaged that this key and influential post will provide the Head Teacher with the additional capacity and support to rapidly build upon standards and progress to date, whilst providing the candidate with a fantastic opportunity to incorporate their vision into the continued development of the school.
The Governors and I are seeking a candidate that is highly motivated, resilient and resolute in the face of adversity; alongside someone who has well-honed people skills, developed emotional intelligence and the ability to be solution focussed. They must also have a broad knowledge of all school leadership/development functions and most of all, be willing to learn. An ability to work on your own initiative and the courage to initiate change is a key requisite of this post; as is the willingness to take risks, accurately evaluate data and handle stress.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they fully understand the growing and emerging needs of school leadership in the 21st Century, particularly in the context of Sandwell and The Priory. If you have the required experience (as per the person specification) and ability to intuitively respond to the increasingly varied needs of our school family, are passionately committed to developing the whole child; whilst gaining the respect of colleagues to influence change, then this is a position for you.
In return, the school will provide excellent professional development opportunities, rapid leadership development and challenge.
Please submit a letter of application on no more than 2 sides of A4, clearly identifying how you meet the requirements, alongside the Sandwell application
form. Furthermore, outline and evidence why you feel you are particularly suited to this post with reference to the above.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects its entire staff to share this commitment. All post-holders will be required to have an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), including a Children’s Barred List check for posts carrying out a regulated activity. Our school is also committed to the principle of equality and opportunity.
We actively encourage and welcome visits to our school. Please contact our School Administrator on 0121 556 1383 for an application or e-mail: recruitment@theprioryprimary.co.uk to arrange an appointment, or request an application pack. We look forward to hearing from you.
