The FdSc Nursing Associate Programme has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse or Registered Nursing Associate to join our innovative and supportive team as an Assistant Lecturer (Apprenticeship Skills Reviewer)

The two-year FdSc Nursing Associate (Higher Apprenticeship) programme was developed to support the introduction of a new nursing role and is a work-based learning course aimed at experienced Health Care Assistants and new to care learners who want to develop themselves to become a Registered Nursing Associate (NAR).

We are the largest provider of the FdSc Nursing Associate programme nationally and a flagship apprenticeship programme for the University. The team have a reputation for delivering a programme that is learner centred and employer led as well as providing innovative, educational opportunities within a professional and supportive environment.

The Assistant Lecturer (Apprenticeship Skills Reviewer) role is new to our department. Approx. 3 days will be aligned to the Apprenticeship Skills Reviewer role, 1 day aligned to undertaking the Academic Professional Apprenticeship if required and one day aligned to teaching.

As an Assistant Lecturer (Apprenticeship Skills Reviewer) within the team you will:

  • Act as key contact point of contact between the apprentices, course team, the apprenticeship team and the designated employer(s) referring to the course leader, employer manager and support services as required.
  • Work closely with the apprenticeship partnership unit, the recruitment and admissions team participating in the recruitment of apprentices and contribute to the programme induction processes.
  • Support and monitor apprentices progress in meeting and evidencing the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours outlined in apprenticeship standards.
  • Work with the apprenticeship course lead and the apprenticeship partnership unit in supporting apprenticeship progression to achieve endpoint assessment.
  • Comply with on programme ESFA measures of OTJ learning, monthly activities, attendance, Tripartite reviews, break in learnings and withdrawals.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress through learner reviews via APTEM (learner management system), in accordance with the latest funding rules and University procedures.
  • Undertake the academic assessor and personal tutor role providing guidance and support to learners and the practice supervisor and assessors.
  • Teach in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures, ensuring content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives for individual teaching sessions.
  • Support learners who require additional academic support and to problem solve and produce solutions to any learning or development barriers to apprentice’s progression.

All applicants must:

  • Hold current registration with the NMC (Nursing Midwifery Council) as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nursing Associate
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject knowledge.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Apprenticeships, IFATE (Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education), OFSTED and NMC requirements.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current experience of supporting undergraduate students/trainees/ apprentices in clinical, educational, or higher education settings.
  • Hold a least a degree in a health-related subject.

Previous teaching experience in a Higher Education setting would be desirable, however, successful applicants will be fully funded and supported through our own Academic Professional Apprenticeship (APA) including full support for study attendance and the allocation of a dedicated APA mentor to provide support to achieve the learning requirements.
