We are looking for an Assistant Planning Manager – Economic Development to join our Network Planning Division to:
Support in the planning, management, control and delivery of specific areas of research and/or projects to fulfil the company’s role in supporting economic growth.
Coordinate with others in the team, including work with government departments, other public infrastructure providers, and external stakeholders, to understand and enhance the role the Strategic Road Network can play in relation to the national economy.
The role will also involve the management of studies and research projects to inform the future of the SRN and the approach that National Highways should take to prepare for new technological, environmental, legislative, economic, and demographic scenarios.
The role will work on a hybrid basis and will involving travelling to other National Highways locations as and when required.
Please note this is a 9 month Fixed Term Contract!
What you’ll be working on
- Managing and supporting the delivery of Studies and Projects, through the management of specific work streams and work packages. This will include assisting in the planning and definition of project steps, scoping project risks and issues, establishing plans, reviewing milestones and priorities and preparing project and programme reporting information for all key stakeholder groups informing them of progress.
- Procuring and managing consultancy contracts. This will include preparing business case and tender documentation, complying with relevant requirements, to ascertain internal support to procure technical consultancy.
- Promoting projects with internal and external stakeholders and project reporting. This will include working with relevant Planning Managers to promote the projects and ongoing progress with key internal and external stakeholders to engage support and provide a clear sense of direction and purpose.
- Maintaining awareness of key developments in relation to the economy and economic development both at the local, regional and national level, and investigating and reporting on potential implications or opportunities for National Highways and the Strategic Road Network.
To be successful you will need:
- Knowledge and understanding of the UK economy and the economic development context
- Experience of working successfully in a Programme or complex Project Management environment.
- Experience of delivering feasibility studies or strategic projects
- Experience of partnership working with a collaborative approach with strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
- Good presentation and communication skills to convey complex information to a wide audience

We are the focal point within National Highways responsible for providing the corporate strategic planning function for the organisation.
