Our Humber region is comprised for 4 ports in Hull, Goole, Grimsby and Immingham. Each port is unique in it's make up and the benefit it brings to the UK, and therefore offers their own engineering approach - whether the largest UK port by tonnage in Immingham to the one of the great historical ports of the UK in Grimsby.


As part of our growth plans we have a large number of projects currently going through various stage of construction, on the back of this we've created a new role to assist with the development and cost management of these. We're looking to recruit for an entry level Quantity Surveyor to join our projects team and get involved with supporting the project engineers in the region with Contracts, Contract Administration, Contract Risk, Procurement, Estimating & cost planning, Cash Flow Forecasting & Cost Reporting. Ideally with a degree background, you'll need to have an understanding of Construction or Civil Engineering with knowledge of cost and contracts.


The role will work closely with our Contract & Cost Manager who will provide mentorship and coaching to develop your skills. You'll be based in the Humber region, ideally Hull but will split time between Immingham and Hull every week to ensure you have a good understanding of live and future projects - a full driving licence is therefore essential.

Responsibilities

  • To assist the Project Engineering department in carrying out the Quantity Surveying function.
  • Work with the Contract & Cost Manager in ensuring consistency and best practice across the business unit to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Maintain effective, accurate cost control.
  • Maintain registers of variations, delay, extension of time, early warnings and claims.
  • Undertake works estimates in line with accepted practice.
  • Prepare tender and contract documentation.
  • Assist with and carry out negotiations


Required Skills & Experience
  • Quantity Surveying Degree BSc/HND (Ideal)
  • Relevant experience in a construction environment.
  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite (ideally including MS Project)
  • Willingness to work towards RICS Professional Membership
