Job description

Barnsley Council are seeking an experienced Assistant Service Manager to join the team based in Barnsley. You will be working on a permanent basis (37 hours per week)and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £36,648 - £39,186 per annum.

The Assistant Service Manager role:

The successful candidate will be required to be available outside of services normal working hours as part of a standby rota to respond to out of hours service needs.  A standardised standby payment will be made in respect of these duties.

Prospective employees will be required to give a reasonable account of any significant periods (6 months or more in the past 3 years) of time living abroad.

About the Post:

We are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Service Manager to complement our team and assist in the contribution to the efficient and effective service delivery of the core functions of Neighbourhood Services.

The Assistant Service Manager will manage the Street Cleansing function but will be expected to provide resilience on a contingency basis as required across the full span of the service offer.

You will require experience of managing front line/logistically-based services, you will support the development and mobilisation of the desired core service operating model working in partnership with a range of key stakeholders and work towards the modernisation of service delivery ensuring the right service is delivered at the right time and place whilst ensuring a strong focus on improved outcomes for customers, residents and communities.
You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills and have experience of effectively managing the performance of operational teams. You will have knowledge of health and safety procedures, relevant legislation and have experience of documenting and implementing operational working practices.

Strong leadership and management skills will be essential together with the ability to skilfully and assertively challenge current practice to ensure a culture of excellence and continuous development and improvement is embedded.
