Assistant Underwriter

John Williams Recruitment have partnered with an independent marine underwriting agent and broker who provide cover in all areas of marine insurance. They have growing books of European and New Zealand/Pacific Islands business, together with a large book of UK risks.
An opportunity has arisen to join their team as an Assistant Underwriter and they are now looking to recruit for a role covering all aspects of the business, which has the potential for excellent career progression.
As the Assistant Underwriter you will handle all aspects of their Small Commercial Craft and/or Pleasure Craft business. The role consists of handling new business enquiries, whether these be direct or via brokers, as well as working through the renewals list. They operate a line slip/binder so the role would ensure that the enquiries fall within appetite and then issue the quotes within the authority.
Key Responsibilities:

• Underwriting within binder guidelines or acting as a broker for additional risks.
• Working from the company workflow systems to ensure all business bound is accurately logged and processed on the company’s software,
• Issuing policy documents promptly and ensuring these are released to the clients/brokers quickly and accurately.
• Assisting with client queries on policy cover.
• Preparation of stats and MI.
• Ensuring all documentation is issued within FCA guidelines.

Key requirements:

• Marine experience is essential.
• Brokering &/or Underwriting experience is essential.
• You will be reliable & articulate with an attention for detail as you will underwriting within a binder/line slip agreement.
• To accurately issue documents and process transactions.
• You will have a logical mind, an excellent telephone manner and be able to work to high standards in an unsupervised environment given we work from home.
• Solid customer service skills
• Commercial awareness
