THE OPPORTUNITY :

Reporting to the Director of Residence Life and Dining Services, the inaugural Associate Director for Residence Education will provide leadership and vision for the creation, administration, and evaluation of a comprehensive residential living/education program serving 600 students. The Associate Director for Residence Education will be tasked with reviewing and revising the department residence hall programming model, the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of the student hall staff, and assist in the rejuvenation of a Living/Learning Community in conjunction with a member of the Northern State faculty.

SALARY :

Commensurate with experience; $47,000.00 to $49,000.00 annually with state benefits. Professional development funds available. This is a 12-month live-off position.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES :

· Select, train, supervise, and evaluate Community Assistant staff for 6 residence halls, approximately 25 students including bi-weekly area staff meetings and bi-weekly individual meetings.

· Assist in the selection, training, supervision and evaluation of department Senior Community Assistants and Graduate Assistants.

· Develop, in conjunction with the Director of Residence Life and Dining Services, a programming curriculum that meets the needs of today’s students using a variety of student developmental theories and practices.

· Assess and identify specific interests and needs of students to implement departmental program goals, specifically where it encourages student interaction, involvement, and engagement.

· Coordinate residential programming as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Dining Services.
Work with academic partners to fully implement a robust Learning/Living Community, specifically in designing a LLC program that has credit bearing components.

  • Work with campus partners, specifically those within the Division of Student Affairs to increase programmatic initiatives that partner with the Office of Residence Life.
  • Develop a system of tracking and evaluating all residential programs.
  • Advise the Residence Hall Association.
· Utilize appropriate conduct support systems and implement effective student disciplinary initiatives to ensure standards of behavior within the residence halls that foster the growth and development of our students.
· Participate in the development of the department through presenting workshops for staff and students.

· Coordinate training programs for Community ssistants, LLC Mentors, and Residence Hall Association representatives.

· Support the profession through service to professional organizations.

· Accept opportunities to be involved in special projects and committees throughout the Northern community as well as the Aberdeen community.

· Contribute to the Student Affairs Assessment Program with student successes evaluations of the living and learning environment.

EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS :

1. Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or related field strongly preferred.

2. A minimum of three (4) years professional experience in residential hall management with experience in Residence Education programming

3. Leadership skills and an ability to work effectively with university students.

4. Working knowledge of student development, multicultural identity development and disciplinary theories and the ability to integrate into daily responsibilities.

5. Ability to work autonomously in a team environment.

6. Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and building a sense of belonging.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

• Excellent organizational skills specifically in record keeping and time management.

• Program development through assessment, planning, and implementation including research, statistical analysis, program development, and program evaluation.

• Ability to relate empathetically and effectively with a variety of people.

• Excellent interpersonal/group communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Teaching/training experience is desirable.

• The ability to multi-task.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and other departments.

• Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

• Ability to hear, read, understand, and follow written instructions.

• Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, and Internet.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :

• Typical office environment.

• Some weekend and evening work.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Participate in and support Student Affairs Strategic Action Plan (2021-2025) projects and efforts.

• Supervise a graduate assistant as available.

• Oversee work-study and/or student labor students.

• Responsible for performing all other duties related to the above areas and or as assigned.
