POSITION: ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR PLANNING CONSULTANT

My client is a small–scale planning consultancy who work on a wide variety of projects which range from one off mansions and conversions to strategic promotion of thousands of homes. The company offers focused planning, design and project management services to a range of clients including landowners, land promoters, house builders, financial institutions, developers and waste operators.
My client has worked all over the UK since the company was formed, with some of recent projects being undertaken in the South West, South Wales, London and the North West of England.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for an ambitious Associate Director to assist with increasing workloads and to drive the business forward over the coming years. Applicants should be used to coordinating large multidisciplinary teams, often independently, and using their initiative to solve complex planning issues. Over the 8 years we have been operating revenues and profits have continued to be increased and we consider there is significant scope for this to be sustained and improved in the longer term.

Duties of the role:
Producing site appraisals and advising clients of development potential of land and buildings;Managing a range of small to large planning applications and appeals over various sectors, including residential, leisure, prior notification applications, agriculture and waste;This will include coordinating technical consultants' fees, being responsible for invoicing / own time management, attending meetings, negotiating / addressing technical queries, and presenting at committee if required;Preparing written representations to promote sites for allocation in Development Plan consultations;Undertaking 5–year Housing Land Supply Assessments;Liaising with local authorities, often at a high level;Preparing and presenting planning evidence at appeal;Making presentations to land owner consortiums, planning committees etc.; andOverseeing other planning consultants to guide them in their management of smaller planning applications. Candidate Requirements:
The potential for career progression rate means that this role would suit someone who is, dynamic and highly ambitious. You should be a chartered member of the RTPI and have at least 6 years' experience working within either a planning consultancy or council planning department. Both development control and strategic planning experience is relevant to the role. You will have excellent written communication skills and be able to coordinate consultant teams effectively, while also possessing the negotiation skills required to successfully promote complex and difficult projects through the planning system. Competence in dealing with a variety of clients is required. Experience of giving evidence at appeal hearings, Inquires and as part of Development Plan EIPs would be advantageous. Good knowledge of the Southwest region would also be of great benefit. A full driving licence is essential as the role will involve traveling to meetings and sites.
