Job description

Associate Director (Transforming Funding

Are you interested in how funders, philanthropists corporates and impact investors can make the most of their resources to make society better? NPC is looking for an Associate Director to lead its busy and innovative Transforming Funding consulting team.

NPC is the leading, independent consultancy and think tank for the UK social sector, working with charities, philanthropic funders and policymakers to achieve the greatest possible social impact for the people that need it. We help organisations improve their social impact, we influence policy and sector behaviour, and we support innovation in the sector. By working across charities, funders, businesses and government, we have a unique perspective and influence, while our consultancy department works with some of the leading organisations advancing great practice. As a hub for ideas, questions and debate, we have a lively work environment, and a supportive community of colleagues and collaborators.

This role

We are looking for an Associate Director to lead the Transforming Funding team. This is an exciting opportunity if you have a passion for how funders, philanthropists, impact investors and corporates make social impact. You will work with a team of experienced consultants to develop new products, move into new markets and respond to the changing needs of the social sector. The Transforming Funding team helps organisations think about their resources and how they can best make a difference—be that through their investments, their CSR strategies, the money they give to charity, or the support they put in alongside funding.  You will run 1-2-1 consultancy projects as well as sector wide initiatives that challenge and support the sector. You will have a prominent role in business development, represent NPC within the charity sector, and advise colleagues. You will set the ambition for the team and manage the Transforming Funding team to deliver that vision.

The things we are looking for include:

  • Experience and knowledge of the foundation, philanthropy, impact investing or corporate markets.
  • A passion for helping these markets be more impactful.
  • Experience in key skills such as grant-making, impact investing, systems change, strategy or theory of change.
  • A track record of successfully scoping, selling, and overseeing projects.
  • Working with stakeholders to achieve impact—through client relationships and wider stakeholders in the sector.
  • A readiness for team leadership and a senior management role.

The diversity of work and topics, autonomy, intellectual stimulation and supportive culture makes this a special role. But we understand nobody has everything in the job description. What’s more important to us is a real enthusiasm for the job, and we are committed to supporting and developing you through informal and formal learning and training.

As an equal opportunity employer we particularly welcome applications from disabled and ethnic minority candidates, groups currently underrepresented in our workforce.  We are open to applications from applicants looking to work part-time hours.

We are based in London and offer hybrid contracts (we expect staff to be in the office at least one day per week). We are open to applicants who wish to work on a part-time basis, at least 30 hours per week.

Salary: £52,000 – £60,000 per annum, pro rata, dependent on experience.

How to apply

We are an equal opportunities employer. As part of the application process we ask that you complete an equal opportunities form. Information supplied will be treated in confidence. If you do not wish to complete the equal opportunities form, it will not influence your application in any way.

To apply, please send:

  • a cover letter (no longer than two sides) that highlights the attributes that you believe that you would bring to this role.
  • your CV
  • a completed equal opportunities form

to recruitment@thinknpc.org before the deadline of 12 noon Monday 11th March. Please include the job reference (AD:01) in the subject of your email along with where you saw the job advertisement. Your cover letter will be used in the initial screening of your application.

If you would like to speak to someone about the role before applying, please email the Director of Consulting, Angela Kail at Angela.Kail@thinkNPC.org
