Job description

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be working with a highly regarded, independent consultancy on the hire of an Associate Environmental Planner to join the busy and growing office in Leeds.

This role will allow you to work in a collaborative, dynamic environment alongside leaders in their fields with a fantastic range of clients on a wide variety of highly prestigious and diverse range of projects!

There will be a varied range of environmental planning and EIA opportunities, from providing strategic advice, masterplanning support, critical friend roles, ES review and EIA delivery. Additionally, a focus on opportunities for business development, digital transformation, sustainability and net zero.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Competently and independently lead and manage multiple environmental planning / EIA projects of varying sizes and complexity.
  • Managing project delivery programme, budgets and invoicing.
  • Manage and build relationships with new and existing clients; including developing own client base and winning work.
  • Take full responsibility for project related matters including the management of junior colleagues on projects.
  • Produce well written, clear, and comprehensive reports and correspondence.
  • Attendance at stakeholder and public consultations.
  • Support and contribute towards the business development and management strategies.
  • Lead on the drafting and submission of fee proposals and tender documents.
  • Develop industry reputation and represent Quod at industry events and professional bodies such as IEMA.
  • Manage, coach and mentor junior colleagues, including overseeing the workload, of junior colleagues within the team to ensure that their work is able to meet the company's exacting standards.

What we ask

  • Appropriate degree and/or higher qualification in relevant subject.
  • Membership of IEMA preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of environmental legislation, relevant policy and guidance.
  • Excellent knowledge of all stages of EIA process, procedures and best practice.
  • Previous relevant industry experience across a range of projects.
  • Commercial awareness and excellent project and financial management skills with proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in engagement with planning authorities and stakeholders.
  • Positive, professional attitude and proactive approach with a focus on finding solutions.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Able to prioritise and manage own workload with limited support from senior team members.
  • Independently problem solves.
  • Enjoys responsibility working under own initiative and integrating/collaborating with other teams.
