The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is seeking applications for the next Elizabeth Hoffman Chair in TranslationalMedical Research. The successful candidate will either currently hold, or be eligible to hold, a full-time clinical faculty or a Status Only (PhD Scientist) appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. The Chair term is five-years, renewable once for a second 5-year term. The tentative start date of this appointment is April 1, 2024, or as mutually agreed upon. The Elizabeth Hoffman Chair in TranslationalMedical Research was established to support Translational Medical Research in the Department of Medicine. The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized researcher, with an active program bridging bench to bedside' or bedside to bench' research. This may include some element of wet-bench and/or computational research work linking to active clinical practice. The Chair is not intended to support knowledge translation work, or research in cardiology. It is the expectation of the Department of Medicine that the chairholder will provide mentorship to early faculty and trainees across the spectrum of the clinical division with which they are associated but will also provide leadership and guidance for all faculty and trainees in developing practices that incorporate Translational Medical Research. The candidate will have demonstrated a record of excellence in scientific productivity and leadership. Consideration will be given to the applicant's record of scholarly activity (including grants, peer-reviewed publications, program development, collaborations with organizations nationally and internationally, supervision of graduate students and fellows) and contributions to their field. The Chair holder will also have a record of sustained excellence in teaching and mentorship. Additionally, they will bring with them strong administrative, collaborative leadership, and interpersonal skills. Successful clinical academic candidates must hold an MD degree and have, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The endowed chair will support academic activities of the chair holder, which may include salary support, research operations, and relevant educational events. Preference will be given to candidates not currently holding a University of Toronto or Affiliated Hospital Chair.
