Associate Practitioner Cardiology


Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital | Cardiology | Permanent | Full time


Salary from £26,000 up to £28,500 per annum, depending on experience


37.5 hours per week


Our cardiology department currently has an opportunity for an Associate Practitioner within Cardiology at Leeds Hospital.


The Role


To work as part of the clinical physiology cardiology service within the Cardiology Department of the Nuffield Health Hospital Leeds, independently performing and assisting with a wide range of physiological investigations dependent on skillset and area of clinical expertise such as Ambulatory and remote monitoring analysis and reporting - perform, interpret and reporting 12 lead electrocardiographs (ECG) - Assist with exercising testing procedures - and assist with invasive procedures. This includes inpatients and outpatients, adults, pediatrics and the acutely unwell to aid the clinical diagnosis and on-going management. As required, undertake supervision and training of other professionals, trainees and staff members.


Key Accountabilities:

Clinical Duties


  • Carries out all aspects of clinical and administrative work as approved by their line manager, working within established codes of practice and local departmental standard operating procedures.

  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care and dealing with their specific needs.

  • Routinely undertakes assessment of both in-patients and out-patients prior to a range of investigations and uses own discretion to ensure the patient is suitable for the investigation.

  • Communicates sensitive information about routine and complex investigations to patients and relatives/carers including children and those with learning and/or physical disabilities.


  • Calibrates and manipulates a wide range of complex, technical equipment which processes, creates, updates and store information.

  • Reporting and escalating on investigations on a range of patients including acutely ill paediatric and elderly patients and those with a range of physical and learning disabilities.

  • Clinical investigations would be dependent on the applicants skill set and area of clinical focus and may include but are not limited to: - 12 lead ECG, 24/48/72 hour Ambulatory ECG Monitoring, 5/7-day Ambulatory ECG Monitoring, 24 HR blood pressure monitoring, Overnight Pulse Oximetry, act as a second for Physiologist/Consultant led Exercise Stress Test and Stress Echocardiogram.

  • Demonstrates personal duty of care for safe use of expensive and highly complex equipment.

  • Contributes to operational department running including stock ordering, equipment monitoring and servicing, local policy adherence and escalating faults where needed.


Professional


  • Responsible for maintaining own technical proficiencies and competencies in clinical areas.

  • Maintains and develops current knowledge of evidence-based practice in each clinical area.

  • Responsible for reporting clinical incidents and adverse events to the appropriate Clinical Lead/ Head of Department.

  • Be an active member of the in-service training programs by attendance at, and participation in, in-service training programs, tutorials, individual training sessions, external courses and peer review.

  • Attends and participates in departmental staff meetings.

  • Frequently undertakes collection of data for use in audit, research projects and equipment testing.
  • Works in close liaison with other staff members to ensure efficient and effective delivery of service, contributing to maintaining a friendly and welcoming working atmosphere.


Other


  • Immediate Life Support training essential during procedures performed on acutely ill patients.

  • Expected to undertake informal training by means of periodic 'in-house' assessments.
  • To comply with the Nuffield Health manual handling policy.

  • Is qualified to NVQ level 2 or above.

  • Previous experience of working in a Cardiology department is desirable but not essential.
