Job description

We have an exciting opportunity within our Engineering Department at Depot, Sidings and Outstations for an Assurance Manager

The Role

We are actively seeking an Assurance Manager to provide assurance that the maintenance activities and services conducted by our Train Maintenance Providers (TMPs) and other GA engineering functions are safe and comply with the requirements of the Quality Management System (including applicable legislation, standards and industry best practice). The primary responsibilities of the Assurance Manager is to work collaboratively with the TMPs and other stakeholders within engineering to ensure compliance is maintained. The Assurance Manager will monitor the performance of the TMPs and other engineering stakeholders against the requirements of the Quality Management System, identify and escalate any non-compliances and support/guide stakeholders in taking corrective actions when non-compliant. The Assurance Manager is required to produce comprehensive reports on the performance of TMPs and engineering functions in terms of compliance, which will be reviewed by key roles within engineering and the wider GA business.

Your role will produce, review and assess engineering processes and procedures as required, and support other engineering functions in developing procedures. You will be able to lead or facilitate the development of risk assessments and safe systems of work, particularly pertaining to operational safety within the engineering function. You will be required to review training material produced by the Fleet Training and Competence Manager as required. In your position, you will champion excellent safety behaviours within the Engineering function and will support the Fleet QHSE Manager in all matters related to safety, quality, health and environmental management.

Additionally, you will be expected to complete audits (e.g. technical audits on TMPs and other engineering functions), PGIs and FWIs, complete COSHH assessments, close out actions associated with near misses (e.g. production of suitable briefs) and complete investigations into accidents/incidents. Your role is required to take actions to close out non-conformances in Q Pulse by working closely with the TMPs or other actions owners. Your role will be required to maintain clear records of relevant information - e.g. actions taken to close out near misses and non-conformances or corrective actions in Q Pulse, written accident/incident investigation reports, risk assessments and safe systems of work etc.

You will work closely with other within the engineering team and the wider GA business to complete projects that you are responsible for.

The Assurance Manager will lead, attend and/or contribute at various meetings such as SIRG/ESIRG, Local Safety Committee meetings at GA’s engineering depots etc.

What we are looking for

The preferred candidate should possess knowledge of the rail industry, as well as hold a NEBOSH certification in occupational safety (or an equivalent qualification). Additionally, you should have prior experience in QHSE management, preferably within an Engineering setting. We seek an individual with effective written and verbal communication skills (e.g. report writing, creating briefs, leading meetings etc). The individual appointed to this role will be organized and be able to effectively prioritize tasks due to the nature of working in an operational environment where things can change at short notice. You are required to have internal auditor qualifications and accident/incident investigation qualifications/training. In this role, you will display exemplary safety behaviours and champion a high standard of safety within engineering. This role requires working on multiple different IT systems and therefore proficiency in systems such as MS Office and Q Pulse is required.

A key skill that is required in order to be successful in this role is the ability to build relationships and work with key stakeholders both internal and external to GA.
