Job description

Audit Technical Senior Manager

We operate as a virtual but close-knit team, with most members working remotely from across the UK. However you would also have the option of full or hybrid working from any of our offices across Scotland, in Newcastle or in London.

The Team:

The Audit Quality, Risk and Technical team provides technical support to the Audit Business Line to ensure that that quality underpins the delivery of audits, thereby playing a key part in mitigating risk to the credibility and reputation of the Firm.

We do this by producing methodology guidance, support materials and guidance, as well as developing and delivering the technical learning programme for our audit professional (qualified) staff. We maintain the firms outsourced audit software, ensuring that the methodology it delivers is current, effective and compliant with Auditing Standards and Regulations, as well as meeting our obligations as a member of our global network.

AQRT provides support to partners and staff in the form of advice in response to ad-hoc audit and financial reporting queries, as well as undertaking mandatory risk reviews and consultations.

We are responsible for internal and external monitoring and for ensuring we maintain a constructive relationship with our regulators and our global network. We undertake internal quality monitoring at both audit engagement and System of Quality Management level.

The Role:

Your primary role will be as a key point of contact and support to client-facing partners and staff. In this role you will communicate with a broad range of individuals within the Audit Business Line, including our strategic pillar groups, and our financial reporting advisory, IT assurance and learning and development teams. You will have regular contact with the Business Line’s senior leadership team including the Head of Audit, and Ethics and Audit Compliance partner.

On a day-to-day basis your role may include:

  • Responding to complex technical queries and performing higher risk mandatory reviews and consultations
  • Undertaking 2nd reviews of responses to technical queries, mandatory reviews and consultations prepared by members of the AQRT team
  • Monitoring and researching developments in technical standards and regulations to ensure these are appropriately reflected into the AQRT methodology workplan.
  • Developing  methodology guidance, templates or technical learning content
  • Delivering training and other regular communications addressing quality, audit and financial reporting developments
  • Providing technical input to the selection and implementation of new audit software tools.
  • Undertaking internal quality monitoring cold file reviews
  • Performing ISQM 1 monitoring and remediation activities
  • Responding to regulator queries and information requests
  • Supporting audit teams through external monitoring review processes
  • Performing root cause analysis on findings from internal and external monitoring reviews
  • Developing and delivering on actions identified from root cause analysis
  • Representing the Firm externally in technical meetings and forums

About you

  • You will already be an experienced (manager) Senior Manager in a central technical and quality function in an Audit Firm – ready to join our team and hit the ground running
  • You will be looking to join a growing team which provides you with a real opportunity to contribute strategically to our continual process of quality improvement
  • You will demonstrate your commitment to quality and be confident in your sound technical competence in auditing and financial reporting matters, while recognising the importance of wider consultation when appropriate
  • You will have a strong sense of ownership and accountability and have a track record of delivering key quality projects
  • You will role model professional scepticism and bring a challenge mindset to interactions with Audit RIs and teams
  • You will recognise the importance of developing people and contribute to the growth of our team through your coaching and mentoring skills
