To provide occupational therapy input to any of the services within the Adult and Specialist Rehabilitation Directorate as required due to staff absence or vacancies.
Service Bases are across Birmingham and the role will require delivery of rehabilitation programmes for which the delivery can take place within the service base, client’s home or in the communitywithin a local and/or regional (West Midlands) remit. In some services this will involve moving around the community daily without direct support on a daily basis with potentially long periods of driving
To assess patients’ occupational therapy needs, planning, carrying out and coordinating individual treatment plans using sound clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based practice. This will include occupational therapy treatment as required.
To provide assessment and analysis of rehabilitation, social and care needs of complex patients as part of the Inter-Disciplinary Teams, referring on to outside agencies / professionals in discussion with senior members of staff.
On the in-patient neuro-rehabilitation unit and Birmingham neuro- rehabilitation team involvement in key working a set number of patients in order to plan and co-ordinate their outpatient programme and act as point of contact for clients, carers and outside agencies.
To work as part of the interdisciplinary teams within the rehabilitation services , effectively assessing clients with complex needs (physical, cognitive, social and psychological) considering their function, disability and health, taking into account all environments in which they live and work.
Identify Occupational Therapy goals and plan / formulate intervention that is evidence based in conjunction with the client, their carers, other professionals / agencies.
Communicate effectively with clients, family / carer and other professionals both internal and external to organisation. This may require explanation, instruction, persuasion, motivation, negotiation, reassurance and require expert verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

To have supervisory responsibility for Junior staff, Therapy Assistants and students, dependent on which service the post holder is working within.
To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards.

The peripatetic post will support the rehabilitation services within the Adult and Specialist Rehabilitation Division (ASR) which provides a wide range of services for people living in Birmingham and all parts of the West Midlands.
All services are provided by teams of clinical professionals and support staff who aim to provide personalised, integrated services that best meet the needs of individual patients and their carers and assist them in managing their physical, cognitive, emotional and social disabilities.
