Working within Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Services offers a unique environment, with clear visibility of senior management who are easily approachable due to their hands-on approach, which includes our Managing Director.

This role is Term-Time only, working Monday - Friday 9am - 3pm

Main ResponsibilitiesThis list is intended to summarise the key responsibilities and is not intended to cover every task that may be required of the role: -


To promote the health & wellbeing of the school child so that they may be enabled to reach their full potential and not be disadvantaged through ill health.
To ensure that the special needs of the child are recognised and that referral to the appropriate person or service is initiated, action taken and appropriate support is given. 
Provide a high standard of clinical nursing care for the child in the Specialist School.
Provide training to school staff on specific procedures to meet the medical needs of the child.
Develop protocols & competency packages for school team.
Liaise with colleagues in primary care, the Child Development Centre team, Community Children’s Nursing team & children’s specialist teams to ensure a co-ordinated approach to meet the child’s health needs.
Work in collaboration with statutory & voluntary agencies regarding children in need/vulnerable children, attending meetings/providing reports as needed.
Regularly review the child’s progress with the Head or class teacher. Advise school staff of the health needs of the students and amend care plans accordingly.
Ability to assess the complex health & wellbeing needs of the children and write care plans that meet their changing needs.
Work in partnership with parents & carers in school and other community settings as needed.

The Ideal CandidateYou will hold a RSCN/RN (Child) qualification and have significant experience working with children and young people with acute, chronic & complex health needs either in a hospital or community environment.


You will have with strong communication skills with the ability to display compassion and empathy to the children and their families, whilst being able to build effective relationships in order to deliver the highest level of care.  
Minimum of two years post registration experience as a nurse at band 5
 Experience of working with children with additional needs
Good working knowledge of Child Protection policy & procedures
Able to communicate effectively
Clear, concise written & oral communication
Able to work autonomously & prioritise own work effectively


As this is a community role, a valid UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes is essential.
