Person specification

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/ graduate diploma or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Certificated post graduate courses or equivalent in-house training in clinical specialty areas
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Membership of an RCSLT Clinical Excellence Network (CEN)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate work experience as an SLT with an adult acquired population within the acute hospital setting
  • Experience of working in an MDT
  • Practised as an SLT at Band 5 or above
  • Completed RCSLT NQP competencies
  • RCSLT Dysphagia Competent
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of approaches for the management of speech/swallowing/language and cognitive communication deficits
  • Experience of utilising and referring patients for instrumental swallow assessment
  • Good understanding of relevant RCSLT and wider clinical guidelines relevant to rotations
  • Presenting to groups
  • Supervision of B5 SLTs, assistants and/or students
  • Active participation in an audit or project work
  • Evidence of CPD

Skills and aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of sound clinical knowledge and well-established assessment and intervention and management skills for speech/swallow/communication
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Able to manage clinical caseload and prioritise effectively
  • Ability to work effectively within different teams both multi and uni-disciplinary
  • Ability to manage own time & meet deadlines
  • Ability to critically evaluate current research & apply to own practice
  • Ability to recognise unacceptable behaviour and act on this appropriately
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office and electronic notes
