Job Title:        Behaviour Tutor

Location:        Higford School, Nr Shifnal

Salary:            £23,000 per annum

Hours:            40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm

Contract:        Permanent, Term Time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Behaviour Tutor to join our close-knit team.

About the role

This is a new role at Higford in an exciting phase of our development. The role will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure with support from a strong and experienced team. We are seeking a tutor with a responsibility for behaviour to support the senior Behavioural Lead (member of the Senior Leadership Team) in ensuring high quality positive behaviour support is embedded throughout the school. The successful candidate will have in depth experience of supporting behaviour in a positive and nurturing way as well as using digital incident recording systems. 

The behaviour and attitudes tutor will complete CPI instructor training (usually a 5 day course), then take responsibility for the delivery of training CPI training sessions for the Higford staff team and at other wider venues. 

The tutor will be confident in the use of incident recording programs, being able to access required information and to train others in the use of the program to record behavioural incidents with and without CPI and accidents. The successful applicant will be responsible for signing off the debrief processes on our incident recording program.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of post incident processes, being able to ensure these are appropriate for students and staff and to help teachers record these on the incident recording program. 

The successful candidate will also work directly with the students on a regular basis, modelling strong skills in supporting learning and managing behaviour. 

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • To attend and pass the CPI instructor course, then deliver training sessions for staff. 
  • To monitor, record and report on student behavioural data in liaison with all education staff.
  • To support the behavioural lead in organising the behavioural recording processes and system. 
  • To work collaboratively with the teaching teams to adequately ensure all risk assessments are in place and implemented. 
  • To model good practise in supporting challenging behaviour, enabling students to develop regulation strategies. 

Essential

  • Experience of work with autistic individuals and/or challenging behaviour.
  • Experience of work within an education setting.
  • Experience of supporting students with challenging behaviour.
  • Willingness to work towards further qualifications as required.
  • Willingness to undertake CPI Instructor training on commencement.

About Us

Options Higford School is an Independent School for pupils and young people aged 5 – 19 years. There are currently 50 students on roll but we are currently going through a period of growth up to 60 students. We specialise in meeting the learning needs of students with Autism and additional needs including Learning Disability, and the behaviours that may challenge resulting from those diagnoses. We offer a bespoke curriculum with personalised timetables within small class groups (maximum 5 students) supported by high levels of skilled staff who all receive the training and support required to deliver both Autism and Trauma Informed practice.
